so far, i've owned three cars in my life. deep down, that is how many cars i'd like to ever own in my life. i'm not sure that is going to be possible, but i did just pass one hurdle in making that a reality ( Read more... )

There are emissions tests in ABQ? Wonder if I'll have to get anything done to my car in order for it to pass.

Well congrats man. I always wish I could go the no car route. I had one week where I lent my car to Jake (my brother-in-law) and Kris went to Cottonwood. We were also working late Tuesday's and Thursday's. I rode in 5 days in a row, rode home 3 days, and got a ride home 2 days. It was a hard week with 112 miles of riding and no real rest days. I'll tell ya, when I got my car back I was really happy to see it. :)

Yeah it's 13.75 miles each way (or 15 if I take the scenic route). I've done 3 trips in and home in a row, but that's my best. After two days in a row I'm pretty tired the next morning. I feel like if I could just convince myself to do it every day for 2 weeks in a row I would bridge some gap and never look back. But alas I haven't been able to motivate myself that much. :)

One of the things I liked about the DMV in Missouri was that they did road-side emissions testing. They would check your emissions as you went up on-ramps onto the highway with a van they had parked on the shoulder. If you passed two of those tests in a certain period of time they would just mail you a certificate that you could give to the registration people. It was all unsuspecting like, really convenient though, because you never had to go anywhere to get it done.

I'm surprised that it had to be ran twice to pass. Granted it has that many miles on it should have had to do that. Have you ever changed anything in the motor or exhaust that needs to be changed every once in a while? Other than oil and mufflers. Have you had the drive train serviced? Man what have you done to keep it around with so many miles on it?

believe me, nothing but prayer and good karma is keeping that thing going. i don't take very good care of my cars.

*but*, one thing i've done is lowered my expectations about a car. some friends get in it and wonder why it still runs (you have to know how to drive it at this point, it ain't all working like the manufacturer intended), which others don't bat an eye and figure it will go to 3 or 4 hundred thousand miles.
