Nearly everyday after school was basketball time for them. The boys made a unanimous decision to let her join the games and have hangout with them. They all thought she was cool. Hyukjae and Donghae told them about her Starcraft skills.
“She’s the perfect girl,” Shindong concluded.
“Is that why you hugged her when you introduced yourself?” Hankyung teased.
“She just looked like she needed a hug,” Shindong said defensively.
“Not from you,” Heechul said, looking scandalized. “I could’ve probably given her a better hug.”
“She plays basketball really well,” Kangin said in awe. “I’ve never met anyone like her. We should get married.”
Heechul slapped the back of his head. “You’re worse than Shindong.”
“Hey, when is Kyuhyun arriving?” Donghae suddenly asked. Kyuhyun was the one who completed their group. He’d been on vacation for more than a month and was finally coming home.
“Today,” Hyukjae answered.
Suddenly there was silence as they all looked at each other.
“She hasn’t met Kyuhyun yet,” Heechul voiced out their common realization.
Among all of them, Kyuhyun was the master gamer. He knew everything about games and beat everyone. He was a really good ball player, too, making him a part of the varsity team, along with Siwon. To add to that, he played some soccer as well. This passion he shared with Hyukjae and Donghae.
“Kyuhyun’s probably going to fall head over heels for her,” Hankyung snickered.
“What do you think Jooyeon will think of him?” Hyukjae asked.

“Who’s Kyuhyun?” Jooyeon asked Taeyeon as they walked to the cafeteria together.
Taeyeon looked at her. “Why?”
“Hyukjae’s been talking about him the whole time we were together this morning,” Jooyeon shared. “Is he your friend, too?”
“Yeah,” Taeyeon said, nodding. “Cho Kyuhyun.” She smiled. “He’s very cute.”
“I see,” Jooyeon said disinterestedly. Honestly, how many more cute guy friends does Taeyeon have? She already had seven, discounting Siwon. “Oh shoot,” she said, stopping.
“What?” Taeyeon asked.
“I forgot something in my locker,” Jooyeon said. “I’ll see you in the caf.” She realized that she left her wallet there this morning.
As she turned left towards the hallway where her locker is situated, she crashed onto someone and fell on her butt. Jooyeon sat there for a moment, closing and opening her eyes. She felt a bit dizzy.
“You alright?” Someone crouched down in front of her.
She looked up. “Fine, I guess,” she said. When she got a good look, she realized that it was a boy she crashed into. And not just any boy. A hot one. He was sporting jeans and a black leather jacket. “Sorry,” she muttered, averting his gaze.
He smirked at her. “I hope you watch where you’re going next time.” He stood up.
She opened her mouth to apologize when she realized what he said to her. She stood up, brushed herself off and glared at him. “Ya! It was as much as your fault as it was mine,” she told him.
“If you say so,” he said then walked away. “But I say it’s always the fault of the one who falls down.”
“Jerk,” she said, making her way to her locker. He didn’t even help her up. And no apology. Hot guys with an attitude like that were a no-no to her.
When she finally got her wallet, she headed back to the cafeteria.
“Jooyeon, over here!” Hyukjae called her, waving his hands.
“Hey,” she said when she reached them.
“You got your wallet?” Taeyeon asked.
“Yeah,” she said.
“Jooyeon, we’d like to introduce you to Kyuhyun. You know, the guy Hyuk was telling you about this morning,” Donghae said excitedly.
“Oh yeah,” Jooyeon said, smiling. He was curious as to who this Cho Kyuhyun was. “Where is he?”
“Park Jooyeon, meet Cho Kyuhyun,” Hyukjae said, gesturing behind her.
Jooyeon stood up and turned around. The smile immediately left her face. It was the jerk. Kyuhyun looked surprised for a second then flashed her a smile that was bordering on sarcastic.
“It’s nice to meet you, Park Jooyeon,” Kyuhyun said, offering to shake her hand.
“It’s nice to meet you, too, Cho Kyuhyun,” Jooyeon responded forcefully and tartly. But instead of shaking his hand, she bowed.
Donghae, Hyukjae and Taeyeon watched the weird exchange between the two. Jooyeon turned around without another word and sat back down. Taeyeon bit back a smile.
“How was your trip?” Hyukjae asked, trying to lighten up the mood. Something wasn’t right.
“Good,” Kyuhyun said, sitting across from Jooyeon. “Lots of things to do with lots of girls.”
Hyukjae grinned. “You should’ve brought some home for us,” he said.
Donghae slapped the back of his head. “The girls are around,” he said, glancing at Taeyeon, who looked amused, and Jooyeon, who stared at the table. “Kyu, we think we found a match for your gaming skills,” he then said, changing the topic.
“Oh yeah?” Kyuhyun responded in a bored tone. “Who wants to get embarrassed this time?”
“Your ego, Kyu,” Taeyeon said. “It’s suffocating us.”
“Jooyeon’s really good at Starcraft,” Hyukjae told him, gesturing at her proudly.
“Is that so?” Kyuhyun asked, looking at Jooyeon. “A girl who’s really good at Starcraft.”
Jooyeon met his eyes. What he said sounded so degrading. It annoyed the hell out of her. “Yes, that is so,” she shot back with the same sarcasm.
Kyuhyun responded with a smirk. “We’ll see about that.” He stood up.
“Where are you going?” Donghae asked.
“Need to catch up on school work. See you guys later,” Kyuhyun said, walking around the table. He then leaned over, his mouth on Jooyeon’s ear. “See you around, Park Jooyeon.” He smiled to himself and left.

Jooyeon walked out of the school building after school, still feeling annoyed about Kyuhyun. Who did he think he was? The god of Starcraft? She’d never met anyone so conceited and so self-absorbed.
She was distracted when she felt her mobile phone vibrating in her bag. Getting it and flipping it open, she frowned at the unknown number. “Hello?” she said, putting the phone on her ear.
“Hi Jooyeon.”
Jooyeon stopped in her tracks. She’d know that voice anywhere. “J-Jungsoo oppa?” she tentatively asked.
Chuckling, he said, “I thought you had forgotten me.”
How could she? “I… you called, oppa? How did you know my number?”
“I just wanted to see how you’re doing. I heard you’re in Seoul.”
“Yes, oppa,” she answered. “Is there anything in particular you wanted to ask me?”
“Why are you so formal? Don’t you miss me?”
She shivered. “Oppa…”
“I’m just teasing you. I just you to let you know that you can reach me here… if you ever need anything.”
As he ended the call, Jooyeon stood there in disbelief.
“Hey,” Hyukjae said, putting an arm around Jooyeon. Jooyeon flinched involuntarily in surprise. He removed his arm at once. “Sorry,” he muttered.
“Hyukjae oppa, I’m sorry,” Jooyeon said, stopping to look at him. “I was just-.”
“It’s fine,” Hyukjae said, smiling uncertainly. “You look like you need some comforting,” he said, changing the subject.
“Yeah,” Donghae agreed, peering at her. “Are you okay?”
“Fine,” she answered distractedly. “Have you seen Taeng? Does she have a council meeting today?”
“I think she’s watching Siwon practice,” Hyukjae offered. “What’s wrong?”
“That’ll be at the gym, right?” she asked.
Donghae and Hyukjae went with Jooyeon to the gym, practically hurrying after her. No matter how many times Donghae and Hyukjae asked her what was wrong, she never answered.
Once they entered the gym, Jooyeon scanned the gym. There were a lot of people, basketball varsity team, cheerleaders, and some spectators. Donghae pointed to the left side of the court. Taeyeon was sitting with Kangin, laughing. But once Taeyeon saw them approach and saw Jooyeon’s expression, she stood up.
“Jooyeon?” Taeyeon asked. She reached for her best friend’s hand.
“Taeng,” Jooyeon said, fighting to keep the tears at bay. “I need to talk to you.”
“Hey, are you alright?” Kangin asked in concern, standing up behind Taeyeon.
Jooyeon smiled, highlighting the tears forming in her eyes. “Fine.” She laughed. “I just need my best friend for a bit. I hope it’s okay.”
“Of course,” Kangin said.
“I’ll see you guys later,” Taeyeon told them as she ushered Jooyeon out of the gym.
“What was that about?” Kangin wanted to know as they watched Taeyeon put an arm around Jooyeon, who seemed to have finally started crying.
“I don’t know,” Hyukjae answered, looking worried.
Donghae wondered what could make the cheerful Jooyeon look so worried to the point of tears.
