But you have DEATH PANELS! They're like DEATH EATERS BUT DEADLIER! And anyone who's been to a doctor in the USA knows that they NEVER had to wait ridiculously long (DAYS) for things like antibiotics for bladder infections!

OMG, and did you see that someone actually said that if Stephen Hawking were British, he wouldn't be alive today?

*facepalms forEVAH*

YAY NSH. Here's hoping everything goes Swimmingly today and they are able to fix your right up easily and painlessly! *hugs you tight*

Heh. Yeah, I just realized I typed NSH instead of NHS.

I found a couple of references to it, but HuffPo described it well here.

And I heard someone explain that because the computerized voice doesn't have a British accent, people don't realize he lives in England. Yeah. As noted above, he praised the NHS after that. *shakes head*

They took the tooth OUT. There and then! That night! It was...weird. But necessary and now it's feeling MUCH better, thank you :D

but we, like you Brits, complain about it constantly.

Exactly - and this is the point that doesn't seem to be coming across. Human nature to take what you have for granted.

And YES, there can be waits. But not for the serious things. And if you NEED something done, you will GET it done. And if you need it done now? You'll GET it done now.

ooooh my God. I honestly think that anyone who is against health care reform has never not had insurance. Because seriously? In the past few months I've been without a job and therefore without insurance, I have been the sickest I have ever been. And I seriously thought that waiting it out might be better than having to pay for a dr's visit.

I would totally trade having to wait a little longer for non-emergency things for not being able to afford appropriate healthcare without insurance, no question.

Sorry to hear about the abscess though! Hope it gets better. Poor you.

I honestly think that anyone who is against health care reform has never not had insurance.

Or never had an insurance company not pay their claim for, like, a broken leg medical bill because they forgot to tell them that they had thrush once on the initial forms. It's FUCKED UP.

On one hand you have a system where the main concern is making money and not losing it to claims. On the other hand there is a system where the main concern is what can be done for people with the money concerns dealt with as a way of doing that. And people REALLY think that the FIRST one is better?!?!? It boggles!
