Music and accents

I'm really enjoying this song by Biffy Clyro

And you know the thing I'm enjoying most? Hearing the Scottish accent in the song. The band are from the same area that I am in Scotland, with one of them from the actual same town (Kilmarnock FTW \o/) and it's just...I forget sometimes how much a Scottish accent just feels like home to me ( Read more... )

English spoken with an Austrian (specifically Viennese) accent. It always reminds me of Oma and I feel incredibly safe. Of course, if it was someone like Jorg Haider spouting right wing crap, there'd be some serious cognitive dissonance going on.

Other than that it's specific voices that I find really comforting - for example, Enrico Colantoni. Just. So soothing. Also yours. HI! Did I mention I love you?

*hugs*

I do get this thing where an accent can become indicative of a certain person. And then that accent can therefore become AWESOME or AWFUL accordingly. Like how the Cornawallian accent always makes me all smiley and remember Will from uni.

And yes, sometimes specific voices too.

*Comforts you with her voice*

Wow, I never expected to see a post about Biffy on LJ. They are my favorite band. If you get the chance you should try and catch a gig as they are amazing live. I'm going to see them twice in December.

Another weird thing, even though I live in Edinburgh I am through in Kilmarnock on a very regular basis. I am a Killie supporter and have a season ticket at Rugby Park. I had no idea you are from that neck of the woods!

I do like them quite a lot. And considering the fact that I'm actually in a music fandom, I actually talk about music surprisingly little. I listen to music all. the. time. But rarely talk about it to people other than my sister.

And yay for Kilmarnock! We moved to England so long ago that I don't actually really remember living in Scotland, although I remember all the visits to see family. :)

I had kind of the opposite thing the other day - the Eagle vs Shark soundtrack came up on my ipod, and I was all '...OMG I don't sound like that, do I?' Cultural cringe ahoy! Funnily enough, I do feel very comforted by Scottish accents, possibly due to many many playings of spoken word Belle and Sebastian tracks.

I get that sometimes. I have a very generic English accent but then I say some things and almost facepalm at the total Midlandsness of it.

I love the NZ accent - I love how to tell it apart from the Australian. :) It was so cool listening to you and Claire talking at Con.txt!

Australian, German, and French accents immediately take me back to my time studying in Japan, when we foreigners were all sharing a dorm together. It always involves happy memories.
