Is it better to keep my thoughts to myself or let you all hear what I'm actually thinking? Very often, I wish I could type it all out... but I'm uncertain whether that would be a wise idea or not.
Well, you know my opinion on this. I tend to keep a lot of things to myself, or be selective about when and where and with whom I share them, so I do sympathize with that desire. But I think we all have a tendency to overestimate how negatively other people will react to our thoughts, or underestimate how interested and receptive they'll be. Certainly there will be times and people where it doesn't work out and it will seem to have been a bad idea, but I think that so much of what's important about life is not just the sharing of our thoughts and ideas, but also the various discussions and results that follow. You might find someone that agrees with something you thought unusual, or maybe if they disagree, they'll have a thought-provoking reason why. And if you still feel uncomfortable sharing your thoughts with others, typing it out is probably a great thing to do, you can just keep what you've written private. It may help you formulate something related that you are comfortable sharing with others.
I'll start with being vague and then go from there! I just hate holding in all of these thoughts and then not talking about them with anyone! I guess maybe I could try speaking about them in real life. It's almost automatic now for me when I think about something to want to post about it online - mostly because I enjoy the potential feedback. Yet at the same time, I fear how permanent it is after clicking "post." Kind of a ridiculous fear, though, since this journal is a make-up of me as I'm growing and shouldn't necessarily reflect everything about me.
