what is productivity? what is a MAN?! koala_yummies December 28 2010, 18:08:27 UTC
i know we have divergent views on life and happiness, but i think you're far too hung-up on this concept of 'productivity', which is a completely relative term to begin with. if you invest hours or even days into a particular video game, for instance, but thoroughly enjoy yourself while doing so, i fail to understand how that is time wasted. while such so-called frivolous activities may not be curing cancer or making money or whatever else you would consider productive, they are providing a sense of satisfaction that comes only with doing what you love. remember the message espoused by that flash animation you just posted to facebook: it's the process (journey), as opposed to any sort of vaguely defined end result, which really matters.

Too many people (including me) believe that I'm capable of so much more than just watching Lost all day or whatever. Despite my rejection of a belief system, I'd still like to believe that my life has a purpose, and when I'm spending time away from music I feel almost as if I'm cheating myself. Nothing in my life has been more rewarding than doing something creative with my music and seeing how it brings people together whether they are performers or listeners.

Yet, even when I *know* that the end results of this "productivity" will have such a positive outcome for me, I still choose to do other things - and that's where my internal conflict lies.

I guess that's all I have to say about that right now.

i get what you're saying, but that still doesn't mean you have to do music stuff *all* the time. even the most rewarding experiences lose their luster if not undertaken in moderation; it's the very exclusivity of such things which sets them apart from everyday life.
