Um, this may be a stupid question, but WHY is there popcorn on the ceiling?

Hehe.

"Popcorn" is what construction people call this particular ceiling treatment. Basically, plaster (or something, I've never been sure what) is blown onto the ceiling, leaving a pebble-like texture which looks, well, kinda like popcorn.

It's a very popular technique, but also one of the most hated among the design industry. The texture makes it impossible to keep clean, it discolors and becomes a dust trap. I hate it with a passion!
