Weekly check in 1-18

Only a .8lb loss this week, but I'll take it, especially considering that a) it was period week b) I went way over calories one day/ made some higher fat food choices this week, and c) had a wedding and reception to attend with no real way of tracking the food. A couple of good NSV's (non-scale victories) this week definitely help with that ( Read more... )

Just a suggestion, but have you thought about doing something easy like substituting a healthy cereal with low-fat milk in for lunch? For the calories you have there, you can have a double serve and STILL have half the calories. And you'll have a lot more fibre, which will fill you up and make you feel healthier AND it's cheaper.

(I know, breakfast food. But it's easy for lunch and you can keep it at work without needing to fridge it)

You're doing really well!

Breakfast is totes my default "Shit, I've gone over my calories but have to eat SOMETHING" meal, along with salad. It's really handy that way. Filling, healthy AND cheap.

The problem with doing the cereal thing is that I'll eat two or three bowls then be absolutely staring in an hour. My body processes refined carbs like cereal super fast. Granola types and things like oatmeal last a bit longer, but not too terribly much. It's why I do the eggs, toast and grits thing so much for breakfast- it's filling, and the protein and fats help me feel satisfied for much longer.

I do have a granola cereal and almond milk at work for when I'm a) broke or b) working a shift where I only get a fifteen minute break.

As for fiber in particular, I'm actually usually over the recommended intake. Not really a bad thing, unless I forget to drink enough water to balance it out. hrm...I need to remember to mention that the reason there's a lack of liquids on my food list is that I drink almost exclusively water- usually at least 64 ounces a day, sometimes a glass or so less.

Is frozen or dried fruit any cheaper, to get in some variety?

Unfortunately for me, no. I can't have dried fruit treated with sulfates, which means I'm usually having to opt for organic options. Which I totally prefer- they're just more expensive.

I mainly only use frozen fruit in cooking. If I want to eat fruit, I want fresh fruit if at all possible. It's a texture thing. Veggies, though, are another matter, and I'm slowing trying to work them into my diet more.
