Shit shit shit shit. I can't believe I forgot to give you the battery charger! I don't think the USB cable will charge the battery. Sigh.
My best advice - ask any Americans you get friendly with if they have an Elph and if so, can you borrow their battery charger? They're ridiculously popular, so you have a good chance. Charge the battery fully whenever you get a chance. It will last several days without charging even under heavy use.
If that fails, try a camera store. Best Buy has a universal all-country charger for the elph batteries advertised on their website. You might be able to fine one there.
