That awkward moment when you’re about to turn 40 and have no kids, but your LiveJournal informs you it’s just turned 21 and can now buy you a drink. 💀

For old times’ sake. 🥂

お誕生日おめでとう, LiveJournal. Thanks for all the memories we’ve shared here over the years (2002-2010 in particular). ☀️

Honestly? My forties have been a mixed bag. (I turn 46 this month but my LJ will turn 21 next year.)

1) Joint pain has become a real thing, just like in the Aleve commercials. (Not debilitatingly so, but certain gestures with certain joints consistently mean a twinge now which is a definite downer.)

2) My metabolism has slowed down. I haven’t changed my life enough (very restrictive diet, targeted consistent exercise program etc.) to account for it so I look like the middle-America, middle-aged mom-type now (although I, too, don’t have kids so surprise! It’s not just the ravages of childbearing, time just messes with us all).

3) Awareness that it’s getting increasingly more difficult to turn this ship around and the absolute overhaul of everyday life necessary won’t win enough votes so the future isn’t looking as bright as it did in my twenties. (It’s looking a heck of a lot stormier and hotter though so… that’s a type of brightness, right? Lightening and the searing rays of the sun?)

4) I have more disposable income. Not a lot more ( ... )
