I took the job. Now we'll be scrambling to move by August.
My main hesitation had been the very small number of paid vacation days, so I asked about that and he increased it. Apparently all I had to do was ask. Who knew?

That's so cool! And yeah, as a Professional you are now expected to negotiate your working conditions--not that school teaches you Jack Daniels about it. (Or it didn't if it was like my spouse's Physician Assistant program. Most of the people in it are non-traditional students, average age 35, so they've had plenty of experience being wage-slaves. The program just marched them out in utter ignorance of how to network, negotiate or advocate effectively for themselves; & healthcare is not a gentle field on the naive....) If there's a national accrediting association or vet's group you belong to, they might have vet-specific books or on-line material about professional development & working conditions. I found a slim book like that for the PA field to be extremely eye-opening & useful.
