I think I've figured out all the classes I will be taking for the next 3 or so years. I finally got them to match up perfectly with my both own interests and the required hours for graduation. Now all I have to do is see my advisor and watch him rip apart that meticulously created plan ( Read more... )

I'd go with German, but I'm partial since my mom has some German blood in her.

German is easiest to learn for English-speaking people [I think]. It has the same kind of grammar structure and there are words that are similar to English words.
Japanese has a different writing system/grammar and lots of words that don't resemble English words at all. You'll probably start with romaji [romanized Japanese, so it's easier to read and you'll be able to learn the pronunciation and grammar etc].
I don't know a lot of Italian, but I've visited Italy as well and I could understand a bit of Italian because I knew French/Latin/English [English and French are similar in some aspects]. Reading is easier than listening, though.

I think Italian might be easiest for me because I already know some Spanish and Latin (and I can at least pronounce it right). On the other hand, you're right about reading being easier than listening...

Pronunciation would probably be my biggest problem with German. And I know I'd have to take an oral exam, so that's the only thing I'm worried about.

As for Japanese, the main thing I want to learn is reading it, but that's definitely more of a long-term project that I may prefer to do on my own as a hobby...
