and then proceeded to get far too drunk and throw up all over the place. This was not, in fact, my reaction to the book, which I was on the whole very satisfied with.
I like that they started off with Moody dying. It signals right from the start that ya know, if a bad ass like Moody can die, anyone else is fair game. I figured that Lupin and Tonks dying and leaving Harry as the godfather was supposed to mirror him and Sirius, but I thought that it could've been handled better. I guess that Harry whinging and moaning about it wouldn't be any better, but... as it is, I didn't care that much
( ... )
Starting with Moody dying was a good idea and he died awesomely.
I liked the elves in this book, the goblins gave much more of both sides of the story which made it a bit more real and also understandable.
The Deluminator was weird, but pretty awesome.
And I was so glad it was an adult who took on Bellatrix. Molly Weasley wins at life.
I loved the backstory, but giving Harry some doubts in previous books, even just a couple of hints - that he had a sister no one had ever seen etc - would have made that story line be less of a WTF moment.
It was nice that each of the horcruxes were destroyed by different people - Dumbledore, Ron, Hermione, Crabbe, Neville, Harry, Voldemort... Showed he couldn't do it alone.
The Prince's Tale was great, I was pleased that she handled Snape/Lily so well, given the tripe I've read about it. And Lily was just amazingly awesome and stood up for her rights and called Snape on his bullshit.
Tonks and Lupin dying really threw me. I don't think I registered at first that they were dead, because it happened off-screen and you're right, it was pointless. I mean, I get that death is pointless, especially in war, but this just seems more so than usual. I keep wondering if they're the two characters who weren't supposed to die.
Was I the only one who thought she was offering him sex on his birthday? No. No you are not.
I kind of hope Harry became a champion Quidditch player and had some fun with his life. Let everyone else cope with the bad guys for a change.
I was glad to see Trelawney join in the action rather than hiding up in her tower and drinking sherry. I love that she was using crystal balls as weapons and I love that it was Lavender she defended.
It threw me because I didn't register it. I reckon Percy got the reprieve and thus Fred might have been one she decided to kill off. You know, getting rid of a Weasley.
LOL. I love Ginny.
I want Harry to be a stay-at-home Dad who plays Quidditch for one of the leagues and works freelance on Defensive magic spells and tutors kids in Defence during the school holidays. And Ginny can be the high-powered kick-ass auror type.
I was so proud of Trelawney. I was all whimpering over Lavender and then she goes and saves her. I may have cheered.
- Harry saving Draco's ass all over the place. Theirloveissocanon!! Haha, oh the dormant shipper in me loved that. -The escapes seemed a little too convienient. Damn, trapped in a dungeon. Oh look, it's Dobby! Trapped in Gringotts? Oh look a dragon! -Hedwig dying made me cry too. :'( -Tonks and Remus dying? What?? Bad form, JKR, bad form. Also, they named their child Teddy? Ha, questionable puns ftw. -Neville was so made of win. Also, I am fangirling his Grandmother like whoa right now.
I wasn't so nuts on the epilogue, but I have a funny feeling she might have put that in just to shut up the ship wars. :P
Also: I think one thing which people terribly underrate is her ability to do humour so so well. That book made me giggle more than it made me cry. I've got to admit, I've fallen out of fandom the past few years, but it was nice to have been there for the ride for the whole 7 books.

I loved Ron in those parts. If we die saving Malfoy, I'll KILL you. Neville (and his gran) are AWESOME. I reckon she and McG were best mates at Hogwarts.
I love her humour. I laughed A LOT. She has some seriously funny characters, and hysterical moments in the most serious of situations.
