In 18 BBY / Year 17 AGR, the Galatic Empire conquered the planet; both Shostak and Zhenya were killed in the fighting, and Anton starved soon after. Yesfir was raised by her extended family - her mother's older sister, Yekaterina, and her husband Grigori Kuznetsov, and her grandfather, Pavel. As Aunt Katya was a schoolteacher before the conquest, she taught Yesfir.
