My Rant About Madame Red from "Black Butler"

Oct 24, 2012 21:57

Where do I begin with Madame Red, Ciel Phantomhive’s aunt? She is the sister of Ciel’s mother, who fell in love with her brother-in-law because he once told her that her red hair, which she had believed to be so ugly, was beautiful (because that’s a solid reason for true love, right?). Fortunately, she nursed no grudges against her sister for ( Read more... )

So, in other words, she's evil!Rosalie Cullen?

Yikes. Am glad I'm not into this series...

Yes, pretty much, unfortunately. Only, it’s even worse because at least Rosalie only wanted to be a housewife. Madame Red is a *doctor* in the Victorian Era, living on her own with her own means and her own career, and yet she *still* feels inadequate without babies.

“Black Butler” has...issues. I mean, the art is amazing and it has an interesting story and premise, and the historical references are neat (especially the episode involving the Princes in the Tower - I’m a little obsessed with them, so I cheered when I saw them). But yes, it’s certainly problematic. Case in point: the main ships of the “Black Butler” fandom? Ciel/Sebastian and Alois/Claude. Both ships involving underage tween boys with much older adult demons. And believe me, this is not a case of the fandom going haywire. The manga and the show bait the yaoi fans with fanservice moments of these ships.

Black Butler? You read KuroSHITsuji? Why? Why did you read that pedophiliac, preaching, badly-written Gray-Stu-starring shit? Why did you do that to yourself? :(

/pedophiliac, preaching, badly-written Gray-Stu-starring shit/

Oh, man, I haven’t even started ranting about the rampant pedophilia in this series yet. I’m hoping to talk about it in another post of Black Butler vs. Young Miss Holmes. But yes, I agree with you, the pedophilia is definitely disturbing, especially since many of the fans don’t have a problem with it. :(

/Why did you do that to yourself?/

But the art is so pretty! And it’s set in the Victorian Era with Gothic and supernatural elements!

In other words, it has a bunch of stuff that I’m usually a sucker for. I didn't know that it would be as messed-up as it is. Everyone was raving about this manga and anime series, so I decided to check it out.

Actually I find what your saying very bad. Do you know what it's like to want something you can never have? Something so many people throw away, like a child? It hurts like hell and clouds your judgement, and I can't blame her for what she did in my heart. As for adopting Ciel, he would refuse to go, and this was before age rules came into play so he wouldn't have to go. You couldn't really adopt back the. Either, and the prostitutes would never go through being pregnant no matter how much they would get since it would ruin their jobs. And lastly, the point of finding out about her past at the end was so that you realise she had a real motive all along. And Ciel never had attue grudge against Grell since when she killed his aunt she actually sent Madam Red to her true love, sister, unborn child, and husband, and since Ciel knew the afterlife existed he knew she was with the people she loved the most, minus him and Lizzy. And yes I refer to Grell as she as you should always address anyone how they wished to be addressed out of common

Do you feel sorry for those prostitutes? Do you think that they all deserve to die?
I felt bad because they weren't aware that Angelina was unhinged with her family passing away and the injury in her brain that might have damaged her feelings of empathy, remorse and regard for other human lives except her family.
Thank you eager to know what your viewpoint! 😊😉

Huh. I'm not a "Black Butler" fan by any means, but from the way you describe this character it seems like the show is trying to do something with her that was done much better in "Appleseed XIII." In that show (not to give too much away) the bad guy basically concocted her evil scheme out of a desire for vengeance after losing her husband and baby. Only there her problem was not an inability to have babies per se, but that she'd become so consumed in her own misery that she couldn't see anyone's suffering but her own and thought her feelings were the only ones that mattered (the heroine at one point relates her own tragic past to her only for the bad guy to dismiss it as less than hers).

I see your point, but... anonymous April 17 2017, 23:00:31 UTC
Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that was exactly how everything was for Madame Red. From my perspective I don't think it has anything to do with her acting that way because of her time period (at least not the main reason) or such. Isn't it more so that losing a child is such a big deal, regardless if you're a "stereotypical" woman and that she became obsessed, partially also due to the following shocks of the death of all her loved ones ( ... )
