Downstairs, the doorbell rang.

“I’ll get it!” Yugi rushed down and opened the door to Yami standing on the front step. “Hey Yami!”

“Hey.” Yami smiled and walked inside, kicking his boots off. “So what’s going on again? On the phone all I could make out was something about a game.”

“Grandpa just got the latest strategy RPG in, it’s not set to be released till Monday, but he said we could have a little preview screening of it if we wait till he closes.”

“Cool!”

“I know! I love having a grandpa that owns a game store.” Yugi began heading toward the stairs. “Anyway…he’s closing up in about a half hour so we can just hang out till then. I knew you wouldn’t want to miss it.”

“Thanks for inviting me.” Yami said cheerfully as they walked upstairs to Yugi’s room, sitting down on the bed. He fell backwards onto it beside Yugi. “God…I’m exhausted. They’re having me work overtime so I can learn everything.”

“How’s the new job going?” Yugi asked tentatively. The slot at the Copy store was the seventh of Yami’s job attempts and he was somewhat sore on the subject of getting fired.

“It’s great!” Yami sat up excitedly to face him. “I’m learning new things every day. Did you know there’s a machine you feed paper into, and somehow the paper comes out on another machine someplace else? Even halfway around the world!”

“Er…yeah. It’s called the fax machine.”

“But isn’t it fascinating?”

“Well…I guess. Fax machines have been around for decades.”

“Oh, fine, make the 5000-year-old Pharaoh feel stupid why don’t you.” Yami shook his head in mock disapproval, and let himself collapse again, this time onto the pillows. He lifted himself up after a moment. “Hey…you got a new pillow?”

Yugi scented danger. Unfortunately, too late.

“Um-I-“

“This is comfy, where’d you buy it? I’ve been looking fo-…what is this?” Yami turned the pillow over to reveal the side with his picture. Yugi covered his eyes in embarrassment.

“Um…it’s you.”

“…Aibou, why do you have a pillow with a picture of me on it?”

Yugi sighed, slowly lowering his hands. “Because Jounouchi is the strangest best friend a guy can have.”

Yami raised an eyebrow.

“He gave it to me for my birthday…a gag gift, I’m sure not seriously. But he ripped up my old pillow and that one is really comfortable, so…!”

“…I still don’t understand.”

“He thought it would be funny. He’s got some crazy idea…” Yugi laughed nervously. “…some crazy idea that you and I…we’d make a good couple. Stupid, I know, but…well he’s weird and he got the idea in his head. He took that picture with his cell phone and got me this so that I could always…er…sleep…with ‘you’…and the connotations just write themselves from there,” he finished somewhat lamely.

Yami’s expression was difficult to read. “Us…as a couple, huh?”

“Yeah, I know it's wrong...”

He cocked his head slightly. “Wrong?”

“Well…you know, we’re both guys.”

“Oh…yeah, I guess that makes sense.”

“It’s not really…‘right.’ Y’know.” He attempted to laugh it off, though it came out rather hallow.

Yami plucked at the fabric with his fingers for a moment. “Yugi…would…not being ‘right’…be so bad?”

Yugi slowly looked up at the sudden flash of sadness in his tone, meeting his eyes. Eyes that he looked into every night, but these were so much different from the frozen, printed gaze of the picture. Yami’s eyes were alive, always changing, always deep and full of mysteries that no image could catch. His fake laugh died away, replaced by a quiet murmur. “No…not really. Do you think it would be?”

“No…not at all.”

“It’s alright…if it wouldn’t be ‘right’…?”

“Completely alright.”

“Completely…” Yugi trailed off. His eyes were still holding Yami’s. They seemed closer. Were they closer?

“Completely.” Yami whispered in an echo.

Yes, they were definitely closer. Much, much too close…perhaps he should stop and rethink this…

And then their lips touched. Unconsciously his eyes closed as his mouth captured Yami’s…or maybe it was the other way around. Or maybe they had simply claimed each other.

Think about it? No…he didn’t want to think about it. For the last few months he had done nothing but think. But now it was real, Yami was real, his velvet skin and his hands that were drawing Yugi closer to him were intoxicatingly real…

Yami pulled back for a moment, breathless, whispering, “I think I like not being right…”

Yugi just reached out, his hands on Yami’s cheeks and jaw, and pulled him back in.

x-x-x

Notes: ...And then the door flew open and they got caught! xD I'm only joking...though you have to admit that would have been rather amusing. *spots Yami and Yugi waving machetes threateningly* ...did I say amusing? I meant...not nice. Not nice at all. *hides*
Well we all knew Yami would see the pillow eventually. All things considered, maybe Yugi should have showed it to him earlier? Also, I think SOMEONE owes Jounouchi a thank-you. v.v
Electronics-fascinated Yami amuses me to no end. And you have to admit fax machines are weird. It took me years to figure out how they work. I still only vaguely understand it.
