Ringing in a new era...

With a baby coming around the corner (May 10), I have been thinking a lot recently about how I have arranged my life and trying to prepare myself mentally for the fact that life as I know it will be fundamentally altered.  This change covers areas as diverse as work commitments, interpersonal relationships, and physical health, not the least of ( Read more... )

We just had our first baby last November. I found that life changes fundamentally, yes, but things settle into a bit more of a routine after a while. I'm spending more time with Zyzzyva and Quackle and less time at club, but I coupled a baby with a move to a new city (with less convenient club times, so that should be taken into account). I took six months off from tournament play. At any rate, it didn't mean the end of Scrabble...just a change.

I knew it would be just a matter of time before you started a blog of your own. Just wanted to say hey. I look forward to reading your posts. My bet is that Jeremy will start one soon...

Way to go in Battle Creek, BTW!

My friend circle and Scrabble circle have become more linked here in MA than they were when I was in MD, so in some ways, managing my personal life and my Scrabble life is easier, in that they sometimes inhabit the same space.

Nice to see you on lj. I look forward to watching you rise in the ratings :)

Congrads! but you can't "balance" -- there is too much to balance. Instead, you need to "trade-off" -- and your priorities will change. The kids become incredibly important, time-sucks that they are!

I actually got into Scrabble post-kids, so I have never known the luxury of uninterrupted hours of study and play.

Sample quote from childless friend: "Hey, you could break 1600 easy if you just put in an hour studying each day!" Well, which hour? Is it the one giving the kids a bath and putting them to bed? Or the hour that we're out to dinner as a family? Or the hour that I'm supposed to be getting exercise, doing the taxes, or cleaning the garage?
