I sorta, kinda met him once. He was down visiting his pal James Michener when he was writing his book, Chesapeake, in the town I grew up in. He was in line in front of me in the drugstore buying his Sunday paper. This was in the late 70's or very early 80's. He looked ancient to me already back then!
