I do feel a bit of sadness for him. He is a prime example of how childhood stardom is not all it is cracked up to be. But I feel mostly a lot of relief for his children. Having him as a father could not have been healthy, no matter how much he loved them.
As I said above, I don't think he had any clue how to be the man he wanted to be. I do think he tried constantly, but had no knowledge of how to go about it--and I doubt he was ever offered serious help. How can someone so famous trust anyone, especially with any sort of mental illness? (I'm sure he suffered from depression, and possibly other illnesses as well.) I feel immense sadness, looking back on his life--more than forty years in the limelight, beginning when he was just a boy. So unfair. :(
Yeah, it's not been a good week for the celebs. Whatever mistakes he made during the latter years of his life, one thing's for certain: he was a talented individual. Many a childhood day was set to a soundtrack of his music. I hope he finds his peace now.
