Oh, DoDDS, say it isn't so!

From the DoDEA website (Department of Defense Education Activity, the gov't department that runs the schools for kids of American military stationed overseas, and for whom I'd love to work):

We normally begin our hiring in May and continue hiring through the summer months until late August. The majority of job offers are made during the months ( Read more... )

That would suck. Especially if it isn't until after the school year starts.

Well, our school year generally starts around Labor Day, so that's not likely to be a problem at least. But imagine trying to move, get settled, set up a classroom, learn a new curriculum, get adjusted to a new country, and be ready to teach, all in TWO WEEKS. Or less! 0_0

Welllllll...it is the DoD. They do that sort of thing. I think my sister-in-law was given something like a week's notice that she was moving from Kentucky to Alabama. And the person who gave it to her seemed to think that was more time than average!

Yeah, I just got off the phone with my best bud, who grew up in a military family, and she said pretty much the same thing. I'm guessing that means I should start getting a move on and getting rid of a bunch of my crap before May!

I did only put UK for DoDEA, yeah, though they can still call for an interview for any of the schools. I really REALLY want to be in the UK, though.

I didn't apply to ASL because they don't have anything in the middle school that I'm qualified for. However, I did apply to TASIS England, and I'm about to go look on the ACS England site to see what's opening up there. I think I'd really like to teach at TASIS England--I certainly like the area; it's in Thorpe, Surrey--but I wouldn't say no to DoDDS, not at all. :)

Thanks for the kind words, and I don't mind you friending me at all! *goes to friend you back* In fact, I'll be in London 24 March - 1 April; maybe you & Rachel & I could meet for coffee sometime?

*hugs* hang in there! My husband and I moved from Texas to Alabama with two weeks' notice. It was crazy, but we survived. I know that's not a different country, so it's not really the same, but having the short notice actually kept us so busy we didn't have time to worry or stress. We just finished what we needed to and did it.

Yeah, it could definitely be done, esp since I won't be working in the summer. I just want to know earlier, y'know? :D

*hugs*
