Title: First Time for Everything
Author: aibhinn
Pairing: Ten & Jack
Rating: G
Spoilers/warnings: None
Summary: On a rare, non-dangerous day out, Ten & Jack spend some quality time underwater. (No, not that kind of quality time.) Pure fluff.

Jack felt the water close over him, and glanced up to see the tour boat floating serenely overhead. The Doctor swam up beside him. He looked odd in his drysuit and breather, but his hair at least was familiar; the currents couldn't do anything to it that the Doctor himself didn't attempt with the judicious application of hair gel. All right, Captain? he asked.

Jack blinked, and chuckled. Yeah, he said honestly-not that he could have lied mind-to-mind anyway. Yeah, I'm great. Not a bad forfeit for a lost bet.

Glad you agree. The Doctor nudged him. Look! You have a visitor coming.

Jack turned to look. A dolphin-or a creature that had evolved from the dolphins that humans had brought here millenia ago-swam up to Jack and bumped him with her snout. Dolly, it said in his mind, just as the tour guide had described.

Jack was enthralled. Dolly? Is that your name? he asked. I'm Jack.

Jack. Dolly squeaked and nudged his hand. Scritches.

Jack laughed behind his breather mask and obliged, scratching around her blowhole and under her chin. Like that?

Like that, yes. Good scritches. She lolled against him for another moment, like a big dog leaning against the person petting it, before shifting away just slightly. Ride? she offered.

Jack's eyes looked over at the Doctor. Go on, he told Jack, grinning indulgently.

Jack swallowed and looked back at the dolphin, who was still waiting patiently. Okay, Jack said.

Dolly wriggled in excitement as Jack maneuvered himself over her back, not sitting on her, but holding onto her dorsal fin carefully. Ready? she asked.

Jack nodded, and added, Gently. It's my first time. How long had it been since he'd been able to say that? He smothered a chuckle.

First time, the dolphin acknowledged, and then they were off.

It was fantastic-like nothing he'd ever experienced. Dolly cut through the water like a fighter jet, turning on a dime and pulling Jack with her down towards the reef below. Colourful fish and animals sped past as Dolly took him down between coral outgrowths, through tunnels, over ridges-all at exhilarating speed. Jack couldn't stop grinning.

Air, Dolly warned him, and then they were shooting up towards the surface, and Dolly leapt-just a little leap, nothing like he'd seen other dolphins do, but she had his weight along too. He couldn't help it. He whooped like a kid.

They splashed back down, and Jack lost his hold on her. Disappointment flashed through him, but he needed to catch his breath anyway. Dolly swam back up to him. More? she asked, presenting her fin to him.

Not now. Thank you. He scratched around her blowhole again. That was fantastic.

Good! Welcome! Dolly gape-grinned at him, then zipped away before he could say goodbye.

The Doctor swam lazily over. Well?

Jack looked at him and shook his head. You can lose a bet any time you want, for all of me, he said.
