Prologue 01

“Who’re you?”Taecyeon scratched the back of his head.

The girl looked up. Her teary eyes were red and puffy.

“I’m Wooyoung.” She said.

“That’s crazy. You’re not our Wooyoung.” Taecyeon braced his hips.

Wooyoung gritted his teeth in frustration. God, he was so mad, he wanted to strangle Taecyeon.

“I. Am. Jang. Woo. Young.”

“But-“

“I’m a girl?”

“Yeah. Proof to us you’re our Wooyoung.” Jaebum added.

Wooyoung sighed. “I’ve got nothing to prove to you, but you guys have to believe me.” He looked at them with pleading eyes.

They looked at one another.

“Please believe me! I swear I don’t know what or how it happened. Do you think I enjoy functioning in a foreign body? It feels like I’m molesting myself.”

Junho chuckled. “Molest yourself all you want. It’s yours for now.” He earned a slap to the back of his head from Junsu.

“Wooyoung, I think you should wear a better t-shirt or Jaebum won’t stop staring at your chest.” Chansung said casually, leaning against the wall.

“I did not!” Jaebum said defensively.

Nichkhun frowned. “Come on, let’s get you changed.” He pulled him along into their shared room ignoring the protest from the others. Seeing, Jaebum looked at Wooyoung like a piece of fresh meat brought out the protective instincts in him.

He closed the door behind him and led Wooyoung towards the edge of the bed. The girl sat in a rather resigned way. His heart ached.

“Wooyoung.” Nichkhun kneeled in front of him. “Look at me.”

The commanding tone got Wooyoung’s attention, alright. He looked into Nichkhun’s eyes, suddenly feeling uncomfortable at the way it seemed to burn into him. What am I afraid of? Nichkhun had looked at him that way before. So, what’s with the uneasiness?

Because right now, I’m a girl! Damn it!

“Wooyoung.” Nichkhun rubbed his knee gently, trying to relax him.

“Yes?”

“I believe you.”

Who would’ve thought those three words would make him feel so much better? “You don’t think I’m lying?”

“No, my Wooyoung would never do that.” Nichkhun gave him a goofy smile that got his inside tied into knots. Oh, what is this feeling?

“I’m not your Wooyoung. I’m just Jang Wooyoung.”

“Whatever you say, honey.” Nichkhun patted his knees and stood.

“Where are you going?”

“Get you some clothes.”

***

The guys settled at the sofa, thinking. Though it was against logical thinking, but in their hearts, they knew the girl just now was indeed Wooyoung. It was hard to explain but their sixth sense seemed to believe it.

“What are we going to do?” Junsu tweaked the tip of the square cushion. “We’ve got to do something before we leave this place.”

“He can’t leave here as a girl, that’s for sure.” Taecyeon pulled his laptop from the coffee table and powered it up.

Jaebum pulled up his legs. “I thought this kind of stuff happens only in Hollywood.”

“Maybe some anti-fan casted a spell on him.” Chansung picked a handful of dried mangoes from the big packet that Taecyeon brought along.

“Maybe.” Junho agreed.

***

Blue clutched his stomach from being elbowed by his lover. “I’m sorry; I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. I mean they just thought of you as their anti-fan. Oh, this is epic!”

“How dare they think of me that way?” Pink puffed angrily.

“But who could blame them?” He stretched his back. “That’s one very big possibility, and logical too. Don’t you think?”

“Well, why are you always right?” Pink crossed his arms over his chest. “I hate it.”

“That’s what you love about me.” He kissed the top of his head. “I’m smart.”

“Whatever.”

***

Nichkhun counted sheep, cows and whatever animals in the farm, in his head. He was definitely having a hard time. No pun intended. Wooyoung had insisted he stayed put while he changed. But, oh god, what suffering he had to endure. He was, after all, only human.

Seeing a topless cute girl, didn’t sit well with him. It’s a double blow knowing that the said girl was his best buddy, a formerly male Wooyoung. Just think of her as that male Wooyoung and you should be fine, the voice in his head said.

“Ok, I’m done.” Wooyoung turned back to see Nichkhun’s faraway gaze, deep in thought.

He settled beside Nichkhun. “Do you think I’ll be able to get back my original body? What if I don’t? And remain permanently as a girl? Will I have to tell the world and quit 2PM?” He bit his lower lip, trying to stop his emotional state from tearing. Being a girl makes him want to cry, so much more often than when he was a guy.

The pretty boy turned towards him, eyes full of concern and promise. “Don’t worry, we’ll definitely find a cure for you before the vacation ends. Trust me.”

“I do.” Wooyoung smiled for the first time since being turned into a girl. Maybe it was the charm, but whatever Nichkhun do or say seemed to soothe him.

“Thank you.” Nichkhun impulsively kissed the top of his head. It just felt… right.

***

Downstairs, everyone crowded around Taecyeon who had his laptop powered up. Wooyoung felt a little giddy knowing that their hands were linked as they approached them. He liked Nickhun’s protectiveness.

“What are you guys doing?” Wooyoung stood behind Jaebum and took a peek of the screen. “Magics?”

“Do you believe in magic?” Chansung swirled his hands around an imaginary crystal ball.

“Where have I heard of that line?” Junsu tapped his temple.

Junho shrugged. “I don’t know. It does sound familiar though.”

Picking up the cushion, Jaebum used the opportunity to hit all three of them.

“That’s not the point, you idiots.”

“The point is, we have to get him back to his original form before we leave here.” Nichkhun squeezed Wooyoung’s hand reassuringly. He’d never realise how their hands seemed to fit perfectly.

“Just don’t tempt me.” Jaebum wiggled his eyebrows.

Nichkhun swiftly stood in front of Wooyoung, protecting him from Jaebum’s leering eyes.

“And we need to enjoy ourselves! Wooyoung, you don’t have to worry. We’ll find it for you.” Junho clapped Wooyoung’s back.

“Thanks guys. I love you all.”

The youngest member polished off the whole packet of dried mangoes secretly. “You’re even starting to sound like a girl.”

They laughed.

Wooyoung picked up the empty packet and tossed it at Chansung. “Hwang Chansung! You finished it all, again!?”

“You freaking cunning idiot!” Jaebum hit Chansung repeatedly with the cushion. The others followed suit.

Chansung used his arm to protect himself. “Ok, I’ll go out and buy more, later.”

“There’s some other stuff to buy too. The kitchen needs some stock to feed six beasts and a princess.” Nichkhun plopped down on the armrest.

“I’m no princess!” Wooyoung protested.

“You sort of are one, Precious.” Jaebum tried to sound like Gollum of Lord of the Rings.

With a pen and paper in hand, Junsu began to write. “What do we need?”

All kinds of things came up. Junsu wrote only on the ones they really need. The rest of the other “wants” can be decided later. Once they’d agreed on what to buy, they chose who to go with Chansung. After a round of scissors-paper-stone, Taecyeon lost.

With a recycle bag in hand, Taecyeon joined Chansung outside, while the rest lazed around.

Rows of shops lined the side of the road. Walking past them, reminded him of scenes from a Japanese drama. All those greenery and suburb architecture brought a classic feel to this whole place. The vendors were friendly and very helpful. Taecyeon paid the elderly woman and took the bag of beef.

“What else do we need?”

Chansung balanced the recycle bag in one hand. He pulled out the small paper from the back of his pocket.

“Hmm, I think we’ve got it all.” He slipped it back in. “But I think we need fruits, like bananas!”

“Ok, fruits, then.”

They started walking toward the minimart down the road. A soft buzzing from a craft shop was oddly soothing.

“What are you going to do?” Chansung asked suddenly.

“Do about what?” Taecyeon looked at him quizzically.

The minimart wasn’t large but it was a good enough size to have sections like big hypermarkets. He grabbed a basket and pushed the double doors. A blast of cold air licked his heated skin, from warming under the sun.

“Stop pretending. You know, about a certain Shorty that you’ve got a humongous crush on?”

“So?”

“So,” Chansung said impatiently. “Are you just going to sit and watch him ogle Wooyoung?”

“What can I do, he’s straight.” Taecyeon picked some apples.

“That’s a lame excuse and you know it.”

“What are you, my father?”

“No, but I’m your friend. And I’m just trying to help.” Chansung put the banana into the plastic bag. “How many times do I have to tell you that my gaydar is never wrong?“

“But, you could be wrong this time round.”

“Look at Junho and Junsu, they got together with my help.” Chansung grinned.

“But they broke up, remember?”

“Well, I’ll try to get them back together. I know they still love one another. They just need to trust one another.”

They went to the dried goods section, picked a few chips and biscuits, and some chocolates. A middle-aged man looked at them warily.

“What are you? Doctor Love?” Taecyeon snorted.

“No.” Chansung sighed. “But I can only give you advice. Just never give it up. You’ll never know. He might come your way.”

***

The soft breeze brushed his cheeks. Birds chirped softly somewhere in the distant. He looked out into the greenness. It was such a good change from looking at another concrete wall. No managers to tell him what to do. No flashes of cameras from the paparazzi. No screaming, fainting fans that left him guilty at times.

Here, he was just him. All relax and contented. Just then Wooyoung sauntered in, all leggy and sexy, if he dared admit. This morning, when he’d seen Wooyoung in that thin t-shirt, he was drooling. He felt like a pervert. But he reminded himself Wooyoung’s girl features aren’t permanent, and he was a guy after all.

“If you’d been a real girl, I’d have wooed you.” Jaebum used his toe to poke Wooyoung’s smooth calf.

“Har-har. If I’m a girl, I wouldn’t even look at you. I’d go after Nichkhun instead.” Wooyoung placed plate of fruits on the small circular table beside his hammock. Surprise! That sounded kind of like a confession to his ears. “Here, have some.”

“Thanks, sexy. Damn, those great legs.”

Wooyoung kicked the hammock, which caused it to sway dangerously. “Call me sexy again, and you’re going to kiss my fist next.”

He went back into the kitchen leaving the leader behind. Wooyoung filled a glass with tap water and added some ice cubes in it. The cold water felt good, running down his dry throat.

***

Nichkhun ran down the stairs and headed into the kitchen where he knew Wooyoung was. He stood behind the latter who was too occupied with drinking, and tapped his shoulder.

“Wooyoung, want to take a walk outside?”

“Sure, if you don’t mind.” Wooyoung put away the glass.

“Since when did I ever mind?”

“Never, but you know since I’m a-“

Nichkhun put a finger across his lips. “Ah, Wooyoung, please don’t say that, ok? Even if you’re a boy or a girl or an alien, I wouldn’t mind one bit. You know why? Cause you’re my Woodong.”

Wooyoung wanted to say yeah right and roll his eyes. But part of him hoped it was true. He didn’t know if this feeling had developed when he was a girl, or perhaps maybe from before. Whatever it was, he was going to enjoy being a girl. Not everyone’s that lucky.

The Thai prince told him to stay put while he went up to get a sweater for him. He put the grey sleeveless sweater and pulled the hoodie over his head. With hands in his pockets, he hopped down the stairs with Nichkhun close behind.

“Khun, don’t go out too long!” Nichkhun heard Junsu shout out from inside.

“Ok!”

***

Junsu watched them go. How lovely. He glanced over at Junho sleeping with a book in hand, stretched out on the sofa. He sighed.

***

The grass smelt pleasant under the sun. Wooyoung sat on the patch of grass just around the corner of the cottage. A shadow loomed behind him. He leaned back to look up into the eyes that made his heart beat a funny rhythm. Stop acting like a girl, he scolded himself. But you are a girl, the voice in his head hissed.

“You look so pretty, right now. I wished I'd have brought my camera along.” Nichkhun whispered.

“Shut up.” Wooyoung turned away, hiding his blushing face.

“Aw, that hurts.” The Thai prince touched where his heart was. “I mean it, you know.”

“I-I know.”

“Miracles happen once in a lifetime.” Nichkhun winked. He leaned forward and kissed Wooyoung’s soft cheeks.

Oh, if only he knew how Wooyoung wished that was true.
