The good news is this game counts for nothing. The bad news is, Italy were defending for the entire duration of the game and had no clear offensive strategy. Attack-wise, all Italy got going for them was Camoranesi [and maybe some Toto/Fabi on the left wing]. On the other hand, Spain came out firing as soon as the whistle blew, and their momentum

My thoughts exactly! What was he trying to do, go for the draw? I think he got scared defensively because Spain kept attacking and Cesc was firing from 30 yards out, so he thought he'd bring in Rino to close them down from the midfield. But srsly taking out Andrea Pirlo? No wonder the midfield died and all the shots came from deep crosses on the left! [Nothing going on on the right with slow Panucci there] *shakes fist at Diddy* It just seems like he has no clear strategy. Or he keeps changing it every damn game. Hence the inconsistency... Bring Lippi back!

*pouts* I thought he was alright, he wasn't shit. [You know I am the first to say it when he's not playing to his ability, but he was OK.] I mean definitely not as intense as he was versus Madrid in CLs but he was helping out Canna with Torres, and was all over the place covering every space. He was putting in some effort, but maybe not enough effort as the press would like? I only checked one pagellone and the highest mark given to any Azzurro was a 6.5 [Gigi and Andrea Pirlo, and Daniele got a 5.5? :{ Canna got something like a 6 and I thought he played well. And Barzagli got a higher mark than Matrix, too.

Even though I only saw the second half, I'm very ok with anyone getting a higher score than Matrix who is shit if he has to face anyone with pace (aka Torres). Gazzetta gave Dani a 5.5 I think, yeah. I finally just threw a bunch of them away, so I can't even check. And Goal.com were seriously hard on him, but they're morons so that doesn't really count.)

Not to worry, Mr Hairy Thighs is already on their list to go -- the competition must be for third keeper, with (according to the Gazzetta people) Toldo and Sereni the frontrunners. Wait and Cudicini?! How can three keepers be in the really quite possible pile? I just got a scanner, I may need to share this later.

Oh and I didn't get to watch Brazil on FSC (No JC *sniffles*), but was able to catch Argentina [v Egypt] on GOLtv that night. Nico scored LOL and Julio didn't :{ He was cracking jokes at the half though, it was cute. Why doesn't he crack jokes at Appiano! Maybe all his jokes are in Spanish :\
