Birth

I've been reading about homebirths a lot, since I haven't actually been to one. I was wondering if anyone here has had a homebirth? I think so, but I don't remember who ( Read more... )

I want to have a homebirth but I've relented because mom and josip both want me to be at the hospital "just in case" but i'm going to do as natural as possible and have a midwive there and mom as well so the doctor can't try to push my delivery along quicker than it wants to go.
Part of me is curious about waterbirth too.

Are you pregnant? I missed it! Congratulations! *hugs* I think you shouldn't let anyone else talk you out of a birth you want. I wanted to be at the hospital with my first "just in case", but it does seem like you have to be more ready to fight for the birth you want instead of just have it. But Eden's waterbirth was in a hospital and overall, I was very happy with it. Definitely read up on it if it's something you're interested in. Water helped me so much.

lol Oh no,sorry I'm actually meeting Josip for the first time in person in march and he's visiting here at christmas time and we'll be using protection. I just already have plans for my birth and I know I want to go as natural as possible but I can see the point in being at the hospital just because of my tendency to have panic attacks..but I will be cloth diapering and I am fighting for that and breastfeeding. I'll breastfeed if I have to cry through it or something.

Oh, whoops! I thought it sounded like you were. Well, you have plenty of time to read and figure out what you're comfortable with. Hope you don't cry through breastfeeding though! I really always enjoyed it. I didn't cloth diaper, but I'm looking at it this time around. Josh really doesn't want to. I'll admit, I'm not the best with poo, so we'll see.

2 sections followed by 2 home births and then a hospital birth. All planned to be at home. So I've pretty much covered the whole range of experiences!

Yay! I'm glad someone else answered. I was surprised at the lack of sharing in this post, to be honest. Do you have any good resources or suggestions for someone who is planning their first homebirth? Especially with kids. We've been reading books, and I'll start watching birth videos with them again soon. I'm trying to decide if we need/can afford to get them a doula if they needed extra support, as I'm pretty sure I'm going to be wanting Josh's attentions.

There's homebirth.org.uk which is UK based but covers pretty much everything you're going to need to know ( ... )

Thanks! I've seen that site suggested before, but since it was UK, I didn't really look at it closely. I'll have to do that.

I hope you're right about the kids. They tend to get very demanding with attention, and I know I will want Josh and not be in the best place to deal with them. I actually don't think we would have two midwives. I know my midwife has a backup, but it didn't sound like she'd have two there for the birth. I'll have to clarify that when she comes tomorrow. I know we're planning on having the midwife and one of my friends present, and the friend may or may not help out with the kids, depending on how comfortable she is with the actual labor/birth. (Assuming she makes it on time, of course - she lives several hours away.)

I'll do more reading, and I'm sure we'll work out the logistics before the time comes. :)

Thank you!
