Missouri Move

Dec 05, 2009 20:32

Today is December 3. Since I don't have internet and haven't yet found a local hotspot, I'm not sure when exactly I'll be posting this. Before I get into our move, I'd like to just say that I got 39090 on NaNoWriMo by Nov. 30th's midnight. I didn't stop there, since I was in a groove. I wrote until one and got 40 thousand something. I really think ( Read more... )

Sounds like you've got a lot going on!

Question though- why are you making inside cats be outside cats? I understand you're allergic, but still. Their lives tend to be a LOT shorter when they're outdoor animals.

Very much!

I don't know if you've read my last post from a couple of days ago, but I talked about the critters a bit more. You must not have cat allergies! It's horrible, and I only agreed to keep all those cats as long as they would be outside cats once we got a proper home. We've made them as comfortable as possible, including letting them in to warm up as needed. I look at it kind of like the 'hardening off' that veggies must have before being put out in the elements. That was always the plan, though, and I'm trying to make it as safe and seamless as possible. I appreciate the concern!

ah yes.. the bevy of tools you NEVER thought you'd ever need that come with owning a home. *sigh*

You guys have more no doubt since it's a farm.

It's nice the Josh is so happy, you've both been through a lot.

It's definitely a learning experience, although I doubt we have half of what we'll end up needing. Especially the farm stuff. We'll be hand tilling this year, unless I can find a cheap used tiller! We'll definitely be starting small and easing our way into it.

Thank you so much! I'm very glad to see Josh and the girls so happy. It is truly a blessing.

sounds all awesome! i've been thinking about you constantly, hoping everything's okay. i kept meaning to call but you know how i am about that! so glad to read this and so glad it's all going great. the mess and ick is all just to make sure the place is really yours!!!! the house is making you earn your stay there, and making you get in every nook and cranny and sort it out. so very cool!!

my kids still won't sleep by themselves so good luck with ivy! you may have to give her her own room, set it up all nice, and then have eden sleep in there with her sometimes, and have her sleep with eden sometimes. it may be a while before she's brave enough to sleep on her own. jiana has managed it a few times, but for the most part, she has to be either with me or with loke.

yay!!! call me when you get your phone turned on so i have your number!

And we've been thinking of you as well! Everyone was so excited about the phone call this morning. We miss you guys a lot.

This house doesn't need to make me earn my stay. Ha! I feel more like it needs to earn our respect. :P Ivy's doing very well with her own room, but she always comes to cuddle with me in the wee hours. She's started staying mostly through the night, unless it gets really cold in her room. Hers is nearest the colder, crappily insulated addition, so it got pretty frosty in there until we got a space heater. Josh won't leave it on all night though. I think it'll be better once we're actually unpacked and she has her pictures and posters up & gets to make it really hers. Eventually we hope to paint and everything. I can't wait!

Just so you know, it will get colder here than on the coast and it might get too cold for it to be safe to keep the animals outside. I know in this county it is illegal to do so in Winter and Summer months (the summers here get really hot too, this past year was record-breakingly pleasant). So check your ordinances and check the weather reports to see what's appropriate for your babies. We also have coyotes here and cats and small dogs get eaten pretty regularly out in the country.

It sounds like you guys have everything going about as smoothly as they can as new-home-buyers with a fixer-upper. Wishing you and your family the best!

I don't know if you saw my last post, but I did talk about the animals a bit more. It's nice to see everyone so concerned about them! We've tried to make the adjustment as easy as possible for them. We were always in the mountains, though, so they are used to the cold, and I've been letting them come in to warm up as needed. I think the transition has gone pretty well. I'll definitely want to make sure it's legal, but they do have the outbuilding and I don't mind letting them come into the back room if that becomes necessary.

Thanks so much for the care & well-wishes!

The outbuilding will help a lot I'm sure, the legality is an issue when people leave the animals outside and neglect them. If you're paying attention to them and the weather, making sure they can find warm/cool areas as needed and taking care of their health generally, it ought to be fine. I do know that our weather is a lot crazier here than on the coasts so just wanted to warn you since I know how much your animals mean to you.

Thank you! I'd never even heard of such a thing, so I'm glad you mentioned it. I don't think it's an issue, since the previous owners had outdoor pets, but where exactly would I check to find out about that, do you know? I have noticed that the weather is odd - we've had water freezing at noon one day, and the next being nice and warm, light-jacket weather.
