My computer died on me today. Yes, my new one.

Luckily, after letting it cool for a while (it got mega-hot, and it almost never gets hot), I was able to do a recovery. I'm making my long overdue back-up cds now. I was scared into action on that one.

I am eternally grateful to everyone who looked at my post and voted for me in therealljidol. I made it through ( Read more... )

My laptop tends to get pretty hot too. The little rubber circular things on the bottom that are supposed to keep it up a little have all fallen off. Unfortunately my vents/fan are on the bottom of my computer. I really should see about getting some more of those.

For Christmas this year I got a 500GB external hard drive so all my music and important files are on there. I'd be so devastated if I lost everything.

I'll definitely be watching the inauguration tomorrow. :)

I want to get an external hard drive quite badly, but they were a bit pricey when I went looking. This computer is still pretty new and the fanciest one I've ever had, so I freaked a bit when it tried to die on me.

Clicked away!

The cheapest place I've seen them is at Costco. That's where this one came from. I think it was something like $120-$140. It's a Western Digital portable one. I think the standard ones might be a little cheaper. Even if I hadn't gotten it for Christmas I probably would have bought one anyway, because I think the price is worth it. For me personally at least. I have about 80GB worth of music and I couldn't stand to lose it.

Out of computer nerd curiosity, what kind of computer is it?

We don't have Costcos around here, but that seems about the same range as the cheaper ones I looked at. I was shopping for a digital camera at the time though, so it was choosing one or the other.

This computer is an HP Pavilion dv7.

Aw, did you really? You're totally awesome! I didn't even think you paid any attention to LJ Idol. Thank you so much!

Aside from reading your and puppetmaker40's entries, and voting for them, I do kinda ignore it. :)

This reminds me, I keep meaning to tell you...I have a good friend in Asheville who is a professional Asian Bodyworker and I think you two would get along smashingly. She's solestria on LJ.

Thank you! I sent her a message to introduce myself, and it looks like she's friended me. I've been hoping for new local friends, so I really appreciate it!

She moved there fairly recently and is also looking for new local friends, I'm sure. :)
