Portable brain damage

Arg. I took my Clié out this evening to jot down a note and the thing was dead. Wouldn’t turn on at all. I’m hoping it’s just that the buttons got held down by my winter coat or something and ran the battery out. If that turns out to be the problem, I can just start locking it when I put it away. According to this story, they’re just introducing new models in Japan. Hm, looks like they still sell existing models here, but won’t make new ones available.

I have a Clie, and I've learned some of its foibles. One time I thought it was dead, but in fact it had just gotten into a mode where the backlight wouldn't go on. The screen is utterly useless without the backlight, and it looks like it's dead. To flip this mode, hold the power switch in the on position for 3-5 seconds.

Nah, this was deader than that. It wasn’t even making the software click when I pressed one of the hardware buttons.
