Plan 9 from Outer Space and also Jonathan Coulton bitching

Moody and I saw Rifftrax Live last night. It was entertaining enough. By which I mean that the actual riff on Plan 9 was entertaining enough, although, to be honest, these guys just don't have the same pep that they used to back when they were doing Mystery Science Theater. But you know what wasn't fun about it? Everything else. And by that ( Read more... )

Please DO go on about fake Internet 80s nostalgia. As an old geezer who actually lived during the 80s, I'm finding the whole thing really weird. Especially when they latch onto failed 80s products that people in the 80s didn't even like but whose action figures Robot Chicken apparently found for cheap at a gragae sale so, hey, now they're reborn. But ironically!

I guess it's kinda like how people who lived through the 60s feel when they notice discrepancies in films depicting the time period (like, say, a film set in 1961 that uses music that wasn't written until 1969).

The more I see Lowtax, the more I realize that he's not all that clever. I know that admitting that online may upset the goons enough to mete out some GOON JUSTICE* but I just gotta tell it like it is, yo!

ANd OH MY GOD, you are not kidding about Jonathan Coulton being a terrible musician. His music is sooooo grating! Seeing this new spate of Internet joke song writers has really given me a new appreciation for what Weird Al does. He may do mostly similar style parody songs, but his lyrics are actually rather clever and his tunes are catchy. Jonathan Coulton didn't even bother to rhyme half his lines.

When people like stuff you don't, it's because they're too stupid to realize it's shit. There can be no other reason.

in your opinion, is Voltaire on par with Johnathan Coulton, or better or worse? Granted his music is aimed at a slightly different kind of nerd, but..
