Taxing Religions

Religious organizations in the US get a free ride when it comes to paying taxes. Both directly and indirectly. (Red numbers indicate estimated amount lost to local, state, and federal governments in 2011. I don't have reliable estimates for entries without numbers.)

That cathedral in Rome that a co-woker of mine once visited, where after the tour, a nun was standing there with an offering box; my co-worker gave her spare coins to the beggar outside. I guess she figured they could always melt down a few candle sticks of they were having that much of a cash-flow problem, yes...
