Kim opens her eyes. It's dark out. There's almost no light in the room but she knows that Chase is lying next to her, still asleep, still alive. Nita came by last night too, at least she was able to reassure Nita that she was okay, or would be okay. Kim thinks that's close to the truth, even if her eyes are bloodshot and her throat feels like

Chase wakes up and realizes that he's alone in a bed that isn't his. He sits up quickly, alarm bells going off in his head even before he's fully awake, growing louder as he remembers where he is and who should be with him.

The bathroom door is open and the room is dark; she's not in there. He rolls out of bed, wide awake now, and goes to look for her, trying to reason with himself that she's probably come to her senses and is just getting breakfast or something.
