The first lines meme. Basically, you post the first line of all your unfinished stories in an attempt to inspire yourself to actually finish one.

So. In no particular order, understanding that I don't title these things (usually) until I'm done with them:

Knowledge is power--from Books Gone Bad ( Read more... )

That was actually the contest I was writing it for, not the title. I generally have what I call "working tags" for whatever project I'm embroiled in. The premise of this one was
Stories should be about books that do not belong in a sane person's library; books that wreak havoc in the lives of their owners; books that are no damn good! The "bad" book in your story should be central to the plot. The book should exert an emotional, or a physical, or a supernatural effect on the characters, or on reality, or time, or space. The book should be the villain of your story. Perhaps a sympathetic villain, or an unwitting accomplice to evil---but nevertheless, the book should be a "character" in your story, play a major role, and be "on stage" for a good part of the tale. --Dead Letter Press

And this was certainly that.

But I'm not sure I even remember how it was going to end. Except badly for my main character. I started it five years ago and most of the premise has completely eluded me.

*looks over old tags* Apparently I started it in 2007, encountered a Plot Hole of epic proportions, and fell in.

I was writing it in Wordperfect.
