Oh, god.

I'm embarking on the Agent Quest today. I've tweaked the Query Letter of Doom once again (and I'd stop doing that if it didn't keep getting better every time I did), and now I'm going to start personalizing the letter for each agent and shipping the thing out.

WHY am I more nervous about this than I am about sending out actual manuscripts to ( Read more... )

I press my thumb in my palms for you. I hear that every no is closer to a 'YES', so your yes is just around the corner!

Thanks.

And of course, I'm second-guessing myself now. I just sent the first five pages to an agent, and those five pages have no spec element and consist of Ben getting the absolute shit beaten out of him for information he doesn't actually have. The scene serves multiple purposes and the spec element shows up in the next one, but damn.

Heh, but you're getting better at defining your manuscript, and the more you write, the better it gets. I guess you wouldn't appreciate it if it were so easy. I know someone who got published really easily, and as a result she just... didn't take it seriously as much as she could have, you know? So yeah, keep on trucking.

I wish I knew what they meant by "the first five pages," too. Because I sent him the first five pages of the thing in standard manuscript format (double-spaced Courier New), which is more like two pages the way I wrote it (single-spaced Times New Roman), so I don't even know.

I guess if what I sent him grabs him, he'll ask for more. I ended it on a bit of a cliffhanger, if he gets that far. Because I'm evil.

WHY am I so nervous about this? It makes no sense.

Possibly because the stakes are higher here than they are with the short stories, by an order of magnitude...
