And he liked it...except for the ending, which he thinks feels kind of tacked on. It changes pace from the rest of the story, and he says there's a lot of exposition there. He gave me a suggestion for a B plot (involving a reporter) that might tie into the ending better and give their solution a more organic feel to it. I'll have to figure out ( Read more... )

Endings are always the hardest part for me, too. On Friday, I wrote a piece you would probably call the ZizFic, which just seemed to spring spontaneously up. However, yesterday, when I tried to write something I wanted to write for a while? Wrote the the beginning and then nothing else.

The ZizFic I submitted to Heliotrope, since they say they'll respond back in 30 days.

Oh, I like Heliotrope; they have a fantastic turnaround time. Not as good as F&SF (which has never taken longer than ten days to get back me via snail mail), but good.

*shakes finger* You're not doing a very good job of keeping us updated on your writing, mister.

Yeah, my NaNo fic pooped out at 15,430 words. Which is still the longest I've written, so yay. But that's another piece where I definitively knew the beginning, but had no clue about the ending.
