As for the owl, that was wholly a matter of "right place, right time," which is (probably) 90% of wildlife photography. We saw him on the nest, then wandered around for a bit, and then I went back to get a few more shots of him on the nest (which was inside an old silo)--and as I was walking up from behind, he flew out the front and landed in the little pasture area. It was so cool.
