30 Days of HP, day 2
01. Discuss how you got into Harry Potter
02. Your favorite book
Yeah, so, I know I'm in the minority, but I really like OotP (but now I know there are at least two more of you out there who like it, too, thanks to this meme!). For the longest time, I'd have called it my absolute favorite, hands down, but then there was DH... I don't think DH edges OotP out of the top spot for me, but it's right up there next to it, for sure.
For me, OotP was a huge treasure chest of character development. We learned so much about so many characters... We met some fabulous characters--Umbridge, whom I love to hate (I swear my blood pressure just soars whenever she comes "onscreen") and Luna, for example. And Harry's anger for me...I know lots of people didn't like it, but it really endeared his character to me, even more than he was before. (I'd have wanted to smack him upside the head if he were real and I were anywhere near him, but he isn't, and I wasn't, so it's all good. :P). I think it was because we saw a real flaw in his character here. Plus, I have a...thing...for reluctant heroes, and Harry certainly was one.
And Neville. So. Much. Love for Neville. The gum-wrapper scene still makes me tear up. And the Ministry scene...And the Thestrals...and...
And in DH, everything was resolved for me, and, most importantly, Harry got his happy ending--and didn't use dark magic to do it. And, again, there was tons of character development that made me seriously happy. Even the camping trip (which I know lots of people hated), gave me more about my favorite characters'...characters. :) We learned about Snape and Lily and Petunia. We learned about Dumbledore. And Neville and Molly both proved themselves to be as awesome as I always knew they were.
