I like to think that such fandom experiences will happen again and again. It kinda comes in waves. Heck even in the 19th century people in America would wait at the Docks for the next installation of a story by Dickens. We are talking old school fandom right there.

I know that things will evolve and old fandom experiences will regenerate into something new and equally as special... Still, the old woman in me feels sad for "good old days". What a gorgeous thing about Dickens... I hadn't heard that before - It makes me all happy inside.

It was amazing at the Potter Party - They were all so *young* and... *Vibrant*. I was so touched by the costume contest - The fleets of enthusiastic kids with less than impressive costumes but their *enthusiasm* was heartbreaking... I actually started to cry when a group of about eight teenagers went up on stage as a Quidditch team - All they had really done was draw numbers on their white tee shirts and wear matching gym shorts but something about the sheer commitment and excitement of eight of them having come up with the idea, and getting coordinated about it, and having the balls to get up on stage in front of hundreds of people... It really choked me up.

It's cool that there are lots of kids with chutzpah.

As for Dickens, most of his stories were published in magazine/serial form so each chapter/installaion would be eagerly awaited. I know that he changed the direction of some stories because of how people reacted.

Then there was Arthur Conan Doyle who had to bring Holmes back because people completely freaked out.

I was sobbing throughout and am now re-reading the last couple of chapters ... I was so pleased with the ending.

I 100% agree with your view of the best quote ever ... true Dumbledore (for me).

Now that I've had a few days to adjust to the deaths of Snape and Lupin (and all the other changes,) I think I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out too - I'm easy. I'm a little undecided about the epilogue (and information within) - Part of me really hates how incomplete it is and therefore, I dislike that she locked us into a really superficial future. But on the other hand - It's nice to have a canon on what happened to everyone. I just wish she had given just a *little* more info - Like where everyone is working and what happened to poor George and the rest of the Weasleys.

Well, she has not closed the door completely ... and left it open for those who write HP.

Bill + Fleur ... why not George and Cho ...

I would have preferred more on the Malfoy family ... were they grateful ?

Very fine line between right/wrong and love/hate. One person's right is another person's wrong.

For me, JKR's right is also my right ... Harry (good) defeated Tom (wrong).

Hey, thanks for the shout-out!

I had to stop after reading of Lupin's death, too. What really got me, though, was the image of Lupin, Black, and Harry's parents escorting him to Voldemort (and expected death). That just hurt so good, as John Cougar Mellencamp would say. Augh!

I actually went into denial - The way she wrote it was with an expression about them being "asleep"... My brain went all confused and I just could believe she meant they were dead - I was so incredibly sure she wouldn't kill him, I just couldn't see past the picture in my head that they were so tired from the battle that they fell asleep on the morgue floor... :::headdesk:::

I see that you saw the announcement about the encyclopedia - Did you also see the article about the "reprieved character"? It actually upset me a bit... Because although she says the decided not to kill off Arthur (yay), the wording of the article made it sound as though she decided on Lupin *instead*, at the last minute - Which which really makes me mad, if it wasn't her part of her original long-range plan. I love Arthur but come on...
