You know, ISBN numbers have a purpose. If you sell used books on the internet, you might want to pay a little more attention to them when listing at Amazon. Don't buy them!
At least not over the internet and NEVER without a picture! These things can only go wrong. I, too, have had my share of mishaps when ordering used books at (for example) Amazon's marketplace and have given up entirely. Especially after Amazon wasn't any help at all when I had troubles with used goods sellers.
I'm truly sorry, I know how you must feel!

I've never heard of Alibris.com, but especially marketplace.com is a very fishy thing in my experience.
