The Oscars were on Sunday, and while they have been roundly dissed as being boring, I still enjoyed it.  Some people have complained about the lack of star power this year (not me), and that got me thinking.  Who are some of the most deserving actors out there who have yet to take home the Oscar?  Here is my list, in no particular order:

I don't think it's that perplexing Christian Bale keeps getting ignored. He's relatively young, and does a lot of genre movies, most of which aren't hugely seen. It may not be particularly fair, but it's pretty evident.

I'm thinking Naomi Watts is someone who's in need of that perfect vehicle--many felt she was unfairly overlooked for Muholland Drive.

I think Edward Norton is one of the most gifted actors of his generation, but until he's able to slightly relax and not commandeer one of his movies, he's not going to get recognized any time soon.

I know Bale has done his share of genre movies, but he has had some pretty well regarded performances. For some reason I had thought he had gotten nominated for American Psycho, but then I remembered that was not the case.

I agree with you about Edward Norton. He's another great actor, and he's had a couple of really showy roles, but I don't think he's very well liked in Hollywood. I would guess that fellow actors would probably honor him before the entire Academy would.
