From yesterday's penny arcade news post:
----------------------

A man near the door threw his arm wide at the crescendo, granting me entrance with a grand sweep. It was Lieutenant Commander Riker. Sitting to his immediate right sat Avery Brooks, who played Captain Sisko, nodding me in. After this, linear time was completely obliterated ( Read more... )

For what I assume was the sake of turning a better phrase, he totally downgraded Riker one rank from his traditional command and two from what he held at the present end of TNG-era mythology.

And I hope Avery Brooks said, "ssssolid" at least once.

the illustrious, delicious, and "muy grande"-icious eevilyounggirl noted this as well; I wonder if perhaps he just forgot?

I'm willing to make an extreme exception and forgive him that blatant nerd faux pas, given the quality of his phraseiological turnings.

Yeah, it's weird. I mean, I agree, his writing is awesome and that phrase does work better, but he gave Sisko the promotion that he earned in DS9's run but actually demoted Riker. Still, you're right, given the circumstances and the stack overflow he must have been experiencing, I think it can be overlooked.

That's awesomely written, but I... I can't get over the fact that he called Riker a Lieutenant Commander.

He's a Commander, plain and simple. I'm sure he was a L-C at one point, but that point was far before TNG ever began.

Let me nerd love you.

Yes...as I mentioned to dosboof, it's a major misstep, but I'm willing to forgive in light of the context.

How the fuck are you? I might need to tail darknes down to Chicago sometime, slip him a roofie, dress him in golf attire and sockless eastsiders, and bring him to dinner with us sometime. After the bars, of course.

Srsly. I'm sure he's gotten 300 emails about it by now, and can edit it. WHY NOT?

ALSO,

I took the bar yesterday (and the day before), so YES. (unless you were talking about the fun kind of bars, of which there are many in this here city) Come down! There is also massive crashspace in die neue apartment.
