It had been a couple of days, but it hadn’t mattered. Facebook had taken a backseat in Izzie’s life over the past couple of days, particularly as the reason that had her so excited over it in the first place was now regularly at the other end of her cell phone, either by text or by phone call.  She logged on nonchalantly, going through the motions, intentions of catching up with wall messages, wishing friends a happy birthday and to see if there were any interesting events coming up. Secretly, she wished to high heaven that Addison would indeed be online at the same time as her.  She set her beer beside her on the kitchen table and wiggled in her seat to make herself more comfortable. Taking a handful of M&Ms, she popped them into her mouth and crunched down on them.  She glanced at the sidebar, looking to see who was online, whether there was anyone worth talking to. And there she was. Addison Montgomery, next to a small green circle. She smiled and clicked on the name.

Izzie:

Hey.

Addison:

Hi, how are you?

Izzie:

I’m good thanks, you?

Addison:

I’m great. I’m not here for long, I’m going out tonight.

The blonde frowned, followed by a pout.

Izzie:

Anywhere exciting?

Addison:

Drinks with guys from work. Not sure where yet.

Izzie:

Have a great time.

Addison:

Thank you, I intend to.

Izzie:

What time will you be back?

The resident cringed as soon as she hit send, ‘stalker much?’ she thought.

Addison:

Not sure tbh, I’ll go with the flow. If you were here I’d invite you along ;-)

Izzie:

Lol thanks and I would accept your kind offer. I’ll just stay in and drink a few beers alone.

Addison:

Aw now you’re making me feel sorry for you. How about Meredith?

Izzie:

Don’t go there.

Addison:

I guess you’ve had your ‘talk’ then.

Izzie:

Yeah, she doesn’t seem to understand what ‘private’ means. She also said she was going to stalk my ‘Bookface’ for clues.

Addison:

Bookface? Lol I take it she’s not into the whole concept.

Izzie:

That’s an understatement.

Addison:

What happened?

Izzie:

She thinks I’m dating someone.

Addison:

What did you say?

Izzie:

I told her I wasn’t and that if I were it’s none of her business.

Addison:

Why does she think that?

Izzie:

She said it was the way I was reacting on the phone.

Addison:

And just how were you reacting on the phone, huh?

Izzie:

I have no idea.

Addison:

You were a little flirty.

Izzie:

Whose side are you on? And anyway, you were flirty too.

Addison:

You can’t blame me.

Izzie:

You knew Meredith was there.

Addison:

That doesn’t mean anything!

Izzie:

You provoked me!

Addison:

I provoked you into flirting with me? I’ve never been accused of that before!

Izzie:

Lol ok, ok, I was flirting *blush*

Addison:

Aha! I bet you were blushing just like that too and that’s when Meredith got all suspicious.

Izzie:

It probably was.

Addison:

I’m sorry you had to face Meredith alone.

Izzie:

I have a feeling she wouldn’t have reacted that way if you were here.

Addison:

Me either. I imagine she wouldn’t have found much to say at all.

Izzie:

Not that we’re dating or anything.

Addison:

No of course, not that we’re dating.

The blonde paused, she bit her lip before taking an almighty swig of beer, it was her second bottle, so her inhibitions were somewhat diminished. ‘What the hell?’ she thought, and began typing furiously.

Izzie:

Can I ask you a question?

Addison:

You can ask . . .

‘OK’ Izzie thought, ‘interesting response, she must be expecting a personal question. Here goes.’

Izzie:

Have you ever dated a woman?

Addison:

Wow, cut to the chase Stevens! I have, so let it be no surprise that I’m attracted to you.

‘Ohmygod, ohmygod, did she just say that?’ the blonde gasped. Taking another sip of beer, she calmed her jangling nerves. She needed clarification and fast.

Izzie:

Seriously?

Addison:

To which part!? Yes, I’m attracted to you, I hope you’d gotten the message by now.

Izzie:

I wasn’t sure.

Addison:

Now you know.

Izzie grinned, the corners of her mouth reaching each ear.

Izzie:

You’ve made me smile like crazy.

Addison:

Haa, I wish I could see, this isn’t exactly the most effective place to reveal your feelings.

Izzie:

I know, I’m sorry.

Addison:

You don’t have to apologise, geography is not your fault!

Izzie:

I just realised something.

Addison:

Yes?

Izzie:

I’m totally attracted to you too.

Addison:

You just realised that? Lol

Izzie:

Haha no, I just realised I hadn’t said it.

Addison:

Well for the record, I’m glad you did.

Iz, I’m sorry but I have to go now.

Izzie:

Ok, have fun.

Addison:

Thanks Izzie, I’ll speak to you soon. Take care xx

Izzie:

You too Addison xx

Izzie sighed as she watched Addison’s name disappear from online status. Such big revelations had her head swimming. It was her first night off in what felt like forever and now she had no one to share it with, not even Addison in any form and Addison was heading out for drinks with friends from work. If truth be told, Izzie was jealous, she wanted to be the one spending the evening with Addison. She scoffed, the whole situation was ridiculous, both women had disclosed they were attracted to one another yet were over a thousand miles apart, what, if anything, could come of this? Feeling sorry for herself, the blonde downed the rest of her beer and got up to grab another. She needed a distraction, so wandered into the living room and threw herself on the sofa, picking up the remote control, her mission was to find a film she could totally absorb herself in.

++

There was a strange crackling noise, she could hear it, but couldn’t quite make out the cause. Her eyes felt heavy and there was a slight pounding in her head. She tried to turn, her back was stiff thus making it hard to manoeuvre without pain shooting through her body. She groaned, blonde hair was strewn across her face, she brushed it aside with her forearm which came to rest over her forehead, to try and numb the thumping in her head. Making one last ditch effort to move, she forced herself forwards, the momentum carried her over and she landed awkwardly with a bump on the floor. This was enough for the blonde to decide it was time to open her eyes, blinking into the dim light as she did so. Her surroundings slowly came into focus, she recognised the coffee table she had just crashed into, the crackling sound was now louder, turning her head she realised had she fallen asleep with the tv set on, she wracked her brain fervently, trying to remember what the last thing she saw was. It was no use, any thinking just caused more pain.  Unsure of the time she lifted her arm above her head and looked at her watch. 5.30am, it was early, she had to be at work for 7am. Sighing heavily she dragged herself up onto her knees, using the sofa as leverage. She had time for a coffee and a shower before she had to leave. Getting to her feet, Izzie wobbled slightly, she shook her head and rubbed her eyes.  Noticing her cell phone laying on the floor, she bent over carefully and picked it up, putting it in her pocket.

“I am never drinking again.” She muttered to herself as she staggered out of the room.

Sitting at the nurses station with her head in her hands, Izzie was nursing a nagging headache. Sure it was a hangover, after speaking with Addison on Facebook the previous night, the blonde had consumed several more beers. She groaned at the thought, never again on a school night she vowed. Picking up the Tylenol she popped two and swallowed them with a mouthful of water.

“Iz, you look like crap, what did you get upto last night?”

The blonde raised her eyebrows, “I had some beers George.”

“Who with?”

“Myself, I had beers with myself, sometimes I find there is no better company.”

“Are you ok Iz?”

“I’m fine, just a little pissed that people keep interfering.” She said loudly in Meredith’s direction who was just about in earshot.

“Are . . .”

“George!” Izzie said in a warning tone.

“Ok, I’m gone.” He said, scurrying off away from the fiery blonde.  Izzie sighed, today had not been a good day, for one she had not heard from Addison, but then, she had not made the effort either, the morning had somewhat been a rush.  She took the quiet moment to pull her cell phone from her lab coat pocket. Three new messages. ‘Huh?’ she thought, she hadn’t remembered seeing them this morning, but then she hadn’t actually remembered checking her phone for messages. She opened her inbox. All three messages were from the redhead. 1.45am, 2.01am and 11.32am. ‘Oh crap.’ Thought the blonde as she opened the first one.

A - Now that’s not the ‘nice’ Izzie I’ve come to know . . . is this the naughty girl you were going to introduce me to?

“What the hell?” Izzie said aloud, seemingly alarmed by the message she was reading.  That was a response from Addison, and a response only meant one thing, she had to have sent a message in the first place. A new dilemma faced the blonde, did she go on to read the next message or check her sent items? Sent items.

I - Hey, hope you’ve had a good time tonight, I wish you were here so I could show you exactly what a good time is ;-)

‘Oh holy crap’ she thought. She groaned and dropped her head to the desk, banging it several times, berating herself for such a colossal drunken error. ‘Well it can’t get much worse can it?’ she thought. She opened the next message in her inbox.

A - Sooo I’m guessing, or rather hoping you’ve fallen asleep. Sweet dreams Izzie xx

‘Aw’ Izzie smiled, Addison was so sweet. The blonde’s initial text couldn’t have done too much damage she thought, but to send it and then fall asleep? Major fail.  All this drama was playing havoc with her headache. Onto the next message.

A - Hey sleepyhead, I hope you slept well, also hoping you don’t have a major hangover this morning ;-)

‘Sprung’. Izzie had indicated she would spend the evening with some beers and Addison was no fool, such a message from Izzie could only mean one thing - drunken texting. She sighed a slight sigh of relief, having told Addison earlier in the evening she was attracted to her meant the text would not have come as a complete shock. She hit reply.

I - Hey, I am so sorry for the text last night, I guess I should not be allowed to control any communication devices when even slightly inebriated. There should be laws for things like that! Xx

The blonde cringed upon hitting send, how could anyone be such a doofus? ‘Oh right, alcohol’ she offered by way of explanation. Izzie folded her arms in front of her on the desk and groaned as she lowered her head onto them, she would await Addison’s reply with intrigue.
