Eep. I really love this, it's very Mal to feel guilty no matter that he's been forgiven. I like it very much that Inara accepts she can't change that about him. I think this is just my way of saying it's perfectly in character? lol thanks for sharing!
I personally don't find that I agree with this point of view but it's possible I'm being unfair. I generally like your work and it's important to note this piece isn't necessarily poorly done. I just feel it's conclusions about (I presume) the lasting repercussions of the Heart of Gold episode are more severe than they need be.
I'm so glad you posted this - and not just because the idea of married M/I makes me so shippyhappy! I think it points to a very deep truth - that the hardest person to forgive is oneself. It makes me wonder, though - in terms of this relationship, what might Inara find difficult to forgive of herself? Beautiful work, not a wasted word, so affecting.
Married Mal/Inara always makes me happy - as does your fics! I do, however, think Mal has so much more to be guilty for besides his night with Nandi. But, your fic still rings true because I think Mal probably accepts guilt for more than he really should. Of course, it's dark, angsty, guilt-ridden Mal that is so interesting.
Do you think Inara was honest when she said she was happy that Nandi's last night was spent with him?
