Ha, now I have to find my pictures of the now-defunct Starbuck's inside the forbidden city.

By the time I was there they had made them take the sign down, so you couldn't tell it from anything else. I bought a mango shake there as it was one of those 90 degree days in Beijing.

A couple of indeterminate eastern-European origin walked up the building and peered inside and I heard the woman exclaim in her native language what could only have been "It's a Starbuck's!"

There are no Starbucks in Russia. I suspect there will be, but there is a Russian coffee chain that is just as ubiquitous.

The sign, when we were there, was completely nondescript and small. But it was definitely there, and definitely incongruous.

Now I know what signs to look for when I travel. You have performed a great service to your fellow travelers, my friend!

Any chance you'll be heading through the Great American SW anytime soon?

We're off to Los Angeles the weekend after next, but I don't think that's what you meant. :) We certainly need to get out in that direction to somewhere other than the Denver area.
