WOW!

I remember the first time I saw a picture (because I've never been anywhere) of the lush green close to the pyramids. So unexpected. I think I was at least twelve! Sheesh!

Fabulous view AND photo! :D

Dad and I got into Cairo in the middle of the night, after a full day of travel from London. The bus ride from the airport to the hotel took another hour and we were exhausted when we got in.

I went out onto the little balcony that belonged to our room, but there was very little light. (Cairo turns the lights off after about 10pm. Beijing does the same. How much carbon load could we save if our major cities turned off their "tourist" lights late at night.) I couldn't really see anything, but sensed the shadow of something large.

First thing the next morning I unpacked the camera, went out on the balcony, and my jaw dropped. After snapping a picture I came tearing back into the room and told my Dad "You're not going to believe what is out there!"

You can apparently float on your back in the hotel pool and see the pyramids. I thought that a bit excessive.

Egypt is full of startling contrasts and contradictions. It remains the most fascinating trip I've taken.
