I've been poking around online to see what I can find, and aiieeeee! Information overload!!! Sadly, none of the links so far has said "Here is a beginning kit for someone who happens to have a drawer of vintage type with which she wants to print."

Hold on to your double-f - I may take you up on that someday!

There are lots of different methods of book binding, if that's what you're looking for--though you'd have to pre-print the pages, and that might be a little risky if you loose a page (mine I've bound, then written in--which come to think of it wasn't the best idea either--what if I had run out of room? I would have had to ditch one of my Phantom of the Opera illustrations). My art teacher has earrings that are tiny little books she bound herself, only about half an inch square!!!

Lots of luck--this sounds like a cool project!

Printing presses, type, embossed papers, miniature books--this all sounds lovely and like great fun. I taught with an art teacher who made the most beautiful end papers--that swirly pattern, what is it called?

The swirly stuff is probably marbled paper. We made it in - fifth grade, I think? You float paint drops on a liquid with something in it to thicken it, and you draw combs through it to make the patterns, and then lay a piece of treated paper on it. The paint sticks to the paper.
