I think that everyone in the world needs to work retail for at least 2 consecutive years in their life.
Absolutely. And if you really wanted to teach them patience then it should be in a Customer Service position. One where they deal with returns, answering phones, and other such pleasantries.
Yep. I told the lady I worked at Blockbuster, so I knew all about people storming out for various reasons.
But yes. 2 consecutive years in a Customer Service position would be enough to scar anyone and turn them into someone a little more sympathetic.
Although, granted, I do have moments where I feel entitled to be a bitchy customer, but I'm a hell of a lot nicer when I do it, and I know when to let things slide and when to fight.
I managed a year at that particular position in Kmart before I finally couldn't deal with it anymore, so yes, there is much sympathy with me and retail.
We all have moments when we're entitled to that sort of thing, but as long as we have that perspective, then we don't let it get to the point where we go too far.
Been there done that. I agree with the retail, but sadly most people do it in their early years and forget it all.
They should do it in their late 20's. After losing a good paying job to boot. Just to learn what the lower class lives like as well so they will be more considerate of those less fortunate.
Feh, you think you have bitchy customers? For three years I had to deal with caffiene-deprived people, and god HELP you if you're opening late. There were quite a few 'Oh, I'll break the window/door (both were heavy glass) for you!' And you know who were the worst about that? The mall workers. *twitches*
