Actually I found that really condescending. Just because AG has become a crass rich-brat status symbol now doesn't mean the original stories were one-dimensional trash. I think it's particularly terrible to attack American Girl books for their concern for social issues, since a) they are by no means the only thing the characters talk about and b) isn't teaching children to understand/be aware of political issues and encouraging them to help others and work to re-dress imbalances in our society a GOOD thing? Isn't that the very essence of what being American is all about? Except to ultra-conservative tea-party republicans I guess. Having them spoofed by adults is a little harsh, since these characters were little baby 9 year olds. Did anyone have many concerns beyond summer camp and their pets when they were 9 years old? I'd love to see whoever made this take a shot at G.I. Joe in the same way
