He laughed, letting her pull him along. They entered the kitchen with her bouncing around like a young girl ever so excited on Christmas Eve. He finally revealed the contents. Inside the bags was a whole bunch of popping corn kernels, chocolate mix and chips, whipping cream and some twine ( ... )

This was just...perfect! I loved the setting and the emotions you conveyed that a lot of soldiers and nurses would have suffered during/post WWII.

And the last bit was just beautiful!
