Best Mini Challenge Entry:

---START---

[Prompt: "She had always wanted words, she loved them; grew up on them. Words gave her clarity, brought reason, shape."]

#1. A Different Kind of Magic - G -

Gwen had always enjoyed the stories her mother told her as a child; fairytales, really, that had captured her imagination and showed her the beauty of words.

The words were the magic, open doors to things you can't express any other way; they defined everything in life, from the first crush she'd ever had on the boy from across the field at her first harvest celebration to the internal turmoil she felt after her mother was gone.

But now the girl who loved these words (exotic ones and ordinary names) was faced with the boy who knew how to say just one thing and she'd forget all other words butI love you - "Guinevere."

_____

[Prompt: It's the End of the World, but there's always time for arguing.]

#2. Not the right time - G -

'Did you or did you not kiss Merlin?' Arthur asked outraged as he grappled with two of their black-clad assailants.

'Arthur, do you really think this is the right time to be discussing this?' was her response just as she landed a well placed blow which caused her attacker to crumple at the knees and collapse into a writhing heap on the ground.

They exchanged a fleeting look, then realisation seemed to dawn on him,'I can't believe you kissed Merlin!' he said in indignation, looking a little nauseated, 'that's...' he spluttered, 'that's gross!'

__________

[Prompt: Arthur only gives the appearance of being fearless, in reality he's afraid of alot...]

#3. Coeur de Lion - G -

The sound from the bedchamber could only be described as a shriek. Running into the room, Gwen halted, staring at Arthur in bafflement.

"Why are you trying to scale the bedpost?"

Caught out, Arthur let go and exclaimed shrilly, "I'm not--" Clearing his throat, he tried in a more manly, offended tone, "I'm not 'trying to scale the bedpost.'" His ruse, however, was destroyed as he twitched and stared past her in terror.

Gwen whirled-- and then, burst out laughing. "It's a spider."

"I know it's a spider."

"You cannot possibly be afraid of a spider."

He hesitated. "I think it's an enchanted spider."

From that day forward, Arthur (privately) referred to Gwen as Brave Slayer of the Enchanted Spiders.

And of Exceptionally-large Ants. And of People With Double-jointed Thumbs (well, she didn't slay them, but she did move them along quickly). And of Dust Bunnies Which Resemble Enchanted Spiders...

______

[Prompt: Arthur and Gwen head the Resistance in a Morgana-dominated Camelot.]

#4. Together We Stand - PG -

Silence filled the small tunnel as they waited, breathing harsh as the adrenaline rushed through their bodies.

Arthur glanced at his Guinevere, standing tall and steady next to him. Her sword - the one he'd chosen of his own especially for her - clutched tightly in her hand. Her brow was creased, her eyes dark and determined, and when she looked at him, he could not see an ounce of fear.

She gave him a small nod, a signal of trust and loyalty. His Gwen would fight by his side. He had resisted her intention to fight at first, but soon found out she would not budge.

As they saw the signal from Gwaine, he quickly reached down and grasped her hand, pulling her to him and kissing her fully on the mouth before turning and, together, leading the rest of the knights to take back their future kingdom.

_____

[Prompt: Merlin: How was the date?
Arthur: Rubbish
Merlin: I knew it would be a waste of time
Arthur: Not exactly]

#5. No Matter of Chance - PG - Fluff

“How was it?” Merlin watched Arthur drop a pile of documents onto his office desk.

“Let’s just say Vivian isn’t my type.”

“That awful?”

“That awful. Although I ran into Gwen,” Arthur added, voice brightening. “That was a surprise.”

Merlin eyed Arthur suspiciously. “Oh? How exactly did you ‘run into her’?”

“Er … she was our waitress.”

Merlin groaned. “It’s not ‘running into Gwen’ when you choose to eat at a restaurant where you know she works. It's stalking.”

“It’s not like I memorized her shifts!” Arthur objected.

“Arthur, I’m your personal assistant,” Merlin reminded him, holding up Arthur's BlackBerry. “I know what’s in here.”

Arthur turned bright red and turned on his heel, mumbling what sounded like death threats underneath his breath.

Chuckling, Merlin flipped open Arthur’s schedule and wrote in block letters, “ASK OUT GWEN.”

___________

[Prompt: No sermons, not one.]

#6. Goodbye is hard to say - PG- Angst

He wishes it could have been a small affair, but of course it isn’t. Hundreds flock to watch the funeral procession. He hates the formality of it all. It isn’t personal. It isn’t her funeral, it’s the Queen’s. And he hates it.

He doesn’t want sermons or hymns. He doesn’t want some priest telling him that it was her time. He doesn’t want to hear that he’ll be alright, that one day the rip in his world, where she used to be, will somehow mend.

He wants to lock himself away. But he can’t because Camelot needs its King, now more than ever. And he wants to fall apart. But he can’t, because she was the only one who was ever able to put him back together.

___________

[Prompt: Every rockstar makes outrageous demands. Arthur is a typical rockstar. Gwen is intrigued, but she won't make it easy for him.]

#7. She Gets What She Wants - PG13 -

He was your textbook rock god. An outrageous jerk. But a lovely one at that.

So when he made the ridiculous demand that she sit in his lap to ‘test’ how it would feel when his adoring fans did, she relented.

When his hand admired her mini skirt by playing around its edges, she didn’t slap it.

And when his lips found her neck, surprisingly letting out heavy breaths, she didn’t move.

But now as he tried to kiss her mouth, she pushed her fingers against. “No.”

Test over. Leaving him aching for more.

*

Just what she wanted.

______

[Prompt: Arthur looks good in a suit. Gwen looks even better.]

#8. Tricks of the Trade -PG13-

“Guinevere, have you seen my- oh.” Arthur stopped in the doorway as his eyes fell on his girlfriend.

His girlfriend in nothing but his suit jacket.

Staring up at him from their bed.

“You were looking for something?” Her features were schooled into an innocent expression.

“I ... er....” he garbled.

“This?” Arthur, captivated by glimpses of her bare flesh, could only nod. “I suppose you need it for tonight….” She made to remove the jacket, but within moments Arthur had taken over.

“Okay, forget the dinner,” he said. Gwen flashed him a pleased smile as his lips met hers.
