Reflections upon marathoning Glee w/ the nieces

So, this is basically a short love letter to the Sam/Mercedes pairing.

My nieces and I have this thing where whenever we watch Glee, and Sam and Mercedes interact, I tend to say, "You know why [x happened]? Because they're in love." We're big dorks, so they put up with me doing it. But they're constantly talking about how it's their favorite ( Read more... )

I would watch a show that was all about Sam and Mercedes epic high school romance.

They are precious. One day I will write an epic fic about them that is not me projecting all over the place.

Glee irritates the hell out of me on so many levels that I just can't watch it. But kudos to them for doing a good thing.

Oh, girl, preaching to the choir. There's a writer on The Hairpin who talks about "hatewatching" Glee and that was pretty much me for the last season. Between the complete plot incoherency and the frequent sociopolitical fail, I get it. But what keeps me watching (aside from the singing and dancing teenagers, which I'm a sucker for) is the fact that they try so often that sometimes they get it right. Sometimes it's on purpose (gay boys have sex and world does not end!) and sometimes it's inadvertent, like this example, but it's often enough that I have to give them some kind of credit for creating a story environment where this stuff happens.

Isn't it fabulous? Queen Latifah deserves all the things she wants.

Also, hi!

hey bb, would you consider reposting this for the women of color day for 14valentines? The person we had writing the essay just fell through and it's day after tomorrow and I'm freaking OUT and thought of this and that it would be pretty perfect.

Please? *Crosses fingers*

I'd love to! Just tell me what you need (would you like it to be longer and/or more thinky?) and how I go about posting. Do I send it to you or do I have posting access, or what?

And, duh, sorry: thank you for thinking of me. It means a lot.

YOU ARE A LIFESAVER.

Okay, so you've got posting access now - day after tomorrow (actually tomorrow now, fucking hell - that would be the 8th) you should feel free to post. (Before noon would be most awesome since we're in a late time zone.)

As to content, length is whatever whatever. Essays are running between 350 and 1k words this year, but they're all about personal relationships with the subject at hand. If you want to make it more thinky, I personally would LOVE to read it. That said, I know you're crazy fucking busy and I don't want to impose. If you've got an org connected to the issue that you're near and dear to, feel free to link to that - otherwise don't sweat it. We're playing fast and loose this year. (Everything changes next year, including me stepping down. Thank god. I suck at running comms.)

You're amazing and of course I thought of you. I would have emailed you and pestered when prompts first went up, but (see above) I know you're super crazy busy etc etc. <3 <3 <3 <3
