Today I wrote about 3,000 words of academic stuff and about 10 words of fic. Oh, fic, you'd be so much easier to finish if I could talk about social construction and cultural context. Also, in one of my classes the discussion for this week was on Barthes and the death of the author. I just posted my required comment and disengaged from the ( Read more... )

oh, the things Netflix thinks it knows about me.

I shudder to think.

I know! Because sometimes I just get in the mood to watch a whole bunch of movies on a particular subject, and I end up feeling like, "No really, Netflix, I have no desire to lock girls up in a cabin in the woods. I was just in a horror movie place in my life."

There was a moment a few months after I got the MA when I realized I had forgotten Adorno's name. It was blissful.

My bliss comes from remembering the skit in Hai's class with the voices. The one that just *broke* him.

Poor Hai. I think we scarred him.

Fiiiic, I WANTS IT. Jon could secretly be doing a distance online learning course with readings on identity etc.? No? Oh, well.

Here is a true fact! My brother-in-law is semi-distantly related to Kate Spade. Otherwise I would not even know who she is. (And apart from giving me that knowledge, this fact has made approximately zero difference in my life.)

I feel certain that Behind the Sea is only step one of Ryan's Plan.

Jon reads a lot of queer theory in his offtime. He and Ryan have long talks about the performance of masculinity and he thinks Spencer's issues are due to being way too binary about the whole thing. He also has a secret crush on Judith Butler.

Dude! Does that entitle you to free handbags? I'd be totally working that angle.

And Ryan wants me to love him. I used to be very meh about him, but now I find myself grinning at pictures of him and thinking he's adorable. It's disconcerting.

Spencer is far too attached to the illusion of the persistent core self.

- Sadly, no. My sister once got one as a Christmas present, but I appear to be one degree outside the circle of free handbags. ach well.

- It is all part of Ryan's plan to keep us off base so he can take over the world more efficiently when the time comes.

I had a moment today when I had to tell myself that "Strategic Essentialism" is not a good fic title. Although Jon is clearly a fan of postcolonial thought.

RyRo... has an evil mastermind at his beck and call.

also, fic continues to mock me.

Fi, why does fic not write itself? Perhaps there's someone we can petition about this.

10 words of fic.
): I mean, yay, academicky! But... ): Poor fic. I feel the need to pet it.

And no one wants that.
Oh, to the contrary--do want! What's more, I think everyone wants, but maybe they just don't realize it yet, so if you give it to them in anticipation of that want, the scales will fall from their eyes and they will joyfully thank you.

For reals, yo.

I in no way approve of inappropriate behavior towards horses.
I don't really have anything to say about this. I just appreciate your laying it out there.

what kind of auditory crack is this and why can't I stop listening to it?
Why, no, I am most assuredly NOT listening to any particular band's cover of "Karma Police" and "Tonight, Tonight"--which, you know, if I WERE listening to them right now, I might have to comment on HAVING to listen to both of them in succession if I listen to one of them, and how I can't leave the room without listening to both of them in their entirety. But I'm not listening to them right now, this is a little irrelevant. I'm just saying.

I feel the need to pet it.
The fic feels uncomfortable when you touch it like that. It may need to tell an adult.

And you've heard my lecture, many times: "blahblah, what is artistic vision, really, blahblah, pretentiousness/Bourdieu/tastemakers, blahblah, watch more TV and read some comic books."

I may get a bumper sticker that reads, "I in no way approve of inappropriate behavior towards horses." Of course, then I'd need a car.

As for music: ahahahahahahaha! Hee! Dude, Pretty.Odd. leaks on the 18th, just so you know.
